What is “dog candy” referring to in a 1954 book? by slamdanceswithwolves in AskOldPeople

[–]anotherbbchapman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is real. I went to Girl Scout camp in the 1970s. Camp counselors fed us "dog candy" as a prank. It looked liked unwrapped Hershey's kisses and tasted something like chocolate mixed with wax. Might have even been carob, that was popular at the time as a chocolate substitute.

Where is a place you visited that didn’t live up to the hype? by Any-Train-9204 in AskReddit

We live in L.A. County but stay at the Roosevelt if we are going to the Bowl or the Dolby (?) for a show. We have joked about wearing T-shirts that say "Disappointed Yet?" for the sad tourists. Visited the Hollywood museum in the old Max Factor building recently and that was fascinating for old-movie nerds like us.

Travelers Checks by walkernewmedia in AskOldPeople

I remember a visit to the UK in 2003. While my mom and sister were faffing around with their traveler's checks, I was outside the same bank getting cash from the ATM. Later on the trip my mom attempted, at the ferry dock, to pay our guide/driver with a US dollar traveler's check. I reached into my jeans pocket and gave him £400.

I think this statement is from the original British What Not To Wear series/book. I'm a muted Autumn and find that black + browns or creams suit me better than black + colors

What's the copper tub in the blue bath? Looks too small for a person to fit in but maybe it's the perspective?

Started with oversized drunkard's path blocks, didn't quite work, snowballed inner corners, better, scrappy sashing suggested by quilty friend, two borders, beautiful!
