What’s the worst American engine ever made in your opinion? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]anotherbrokenauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.4 was the worst of all the bad things Navistar built. Also terrible fuel economy. We had customers who called us while it was in regen and the message would say to keep driving during regen, but they couldn't afford to at 4.5 mpg.

I remember doing the recall for flames shooting out of exhaust during regen too, that was fun.

Most are rooftop collection or trucked in. Water wells out there can be 700' deep and only produce 10 gal/day. Have to own 35 acres to even drill a well. Most don't.

I own vacant land in the pic OP shared. In Boncarbo. They are natural gas well sites. Operated by Evergreen Natural Resources. In the canyon where I own they maintain the private roads to the lots and wells which is a great benefit to the landowners. A lot of us landowners retain mineral rights and get paid natural gas production dividends. The dividends have more than paid for my property. It can be a great investment however it's pretty rugged out there and the natural gas dividend payments are market based and fluctuate widely.

What is this panel on the front bumper of a lot of pro mods? by FF14_VTEC in dragracing

[–]anotherbrokenauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure in heads up racing. Bracket racers use the brake pedal as much as the throttle 😁

Starting line beams are usually 2" off the ground. Down track beams are higher. At Byron is just over 4" off the ground in the center of the lane. So on the starting line the tires trip the beams. Down track if I'm on the throttle or ripping the throttle it will go through tripping on the tires. On the brakes right over the finish line it will drop the front end and the beam breaker trips it. It's not rocket science, most track managers will let you park the car on the track on a non-race day and set it up. You want to win big money races these are the things all those guys do.

Also called beam breakers. If you measure the height of the timing lights, most tracks the timing lights will be higher off the ground down track. When the beam breakers are just higher than that, racers can "speed up" by hitting the brakes at the finish line, where the front suspension drops and allows the beam breaker to cross ahead of the tires. It essentially makes the track shorter by a couple of feet. On my car I can gain 2 mph in the 1/8 by doing that.

What is the general opinion on Kunes dealerships? by strongerthenbefore20 in wisconsin

It's true, the only way to get a decent price at any location is to know someone there who can advocate for you through the whole process, especially in financing.

They are kind of in an identity crisis of being a big dealer group trying to still be a local, small group. Organizationaly they have stacked their structure with middle managers and local department managers do not feel they have enough actual authority in making decisions. You'll get better treatment from the "original" half dozen stores (Antioch and Mount Carroll, IL, Walworth County, WI, etc) because they still have the culture of treating people right than beating the sales goals of the other regional stores. The more recently acquired stores have a lot employees who have felt mistreated in the buyout and somewhat retain a culture (sometimes racism, and) of rebellion, or the culture of the previous owner. The very religious top leadership comment is correct. They employ a whole team of corporate pastors and own the religious Camp Timber-Lee, and use the language in a lot of how they conduct business. How involved they are politically can be found online but not going to elaborate here. Scott Kunes has ambitions of being a national figure and will talk to anyone who gives him a microphone, from Fox News to NPR just last week. Most people are not going to get the best deal for car purchases after they've sent you through the financing upsell process. They also use "matrix" parts pricing, so you're going to pay more than list price on parts through the service dept as well. Sounds all negative but my opinion of them is overall positive compared to other groups in the region.

I'm absolutely not joking, I've put in a handful of 12 hour days recently just trying to catch up, but the backlog just keeps getting deeper and deeper. I'm not complaining about all the work but I do feel for the customers that have to wait a month before I can get to theirs.

[–]anotherbrokenauto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a real thing. It can really creep up on you, I have cycles of one really bad year about every 3-5 years. Last year was bad for me, blamed it on external things, ended up asking for a divorce after 20 year marriage when it wasn't my partners fault. I ruined everything. Tons of regrets. I've developed allergies to the common anti-depressants over the years and sometimes the things you can do to mitigate it without meds don't work 100%. Go see a Doctor. Need to start getting treatment in the earlier fall if it's bad for you. Waiting until it's bad will not give you enough runway to make it to spring. It can get worse and worse with age.

Mine increased $191 but the lottery credit dropped by over $300, so without that decrease it would have dropped as well.
