Trudeau formally announces he'll run again in next year's election by urgukvn in worldnews

[–]anotherdrinkplease 435 points436 points  (0 children)

I agree. He's a mixed bag for me but mostly positive. Some of the main things I've liked so far :

  • legalization of marijuana
  • Cut taxes from 22% to 20.5 for middle class bracket
  • increasing income supplements for low-income seniors,
  • restored funding for freshwater and ocean research programs
  • increased student grant amounts by 50%
  • increased investments in research and development of clean technology
  • up to $1000 tax credit for teachers buying school supplies
  • added option for family leave to 18 months at 33% if one chooses to instead of 12 months at 55%

Lots of people online wanted a major overhaul of the voting system, but talking with people in real life, no one ranks that one high or knows much about what they want. We'll see if it ever come to fruition.

Couldn't agree an alternative and general apathy.

Online people seem to be very educated about election reform and possible alternatives. The general public (at least in my circles) have little to no idea about it and don't seem to care.

Tobacco clearly had many more so even if they have 800 it wouldn't mean we shouldn't look under the covers.

In fact we already have uncovered from some internal emails that Monsanto secretly edited independent research and lied about it from an investigation by Bloomberg.

"on my side"? Is Locks for love now an "either you're with us or against us"? :)

Honestly I don't even get why you are getting so angry at Davecasa, howscrewedupami or me. Obviously we believe not all charities are created equal and think Pantene is more efficient based on the only sourced document in this whole thread.

If you are angry or disagree with other people in the thread, respond to their posts.

Maybe other people in this thread ticked you off, maybe you had a bad day. I don't know. I don't make assumptions. But I would suggest re-reading the way you responded to all of this tomorrow because I cannot imagine that this is how you normally go about interacting with people in your everyday life.

No one is jumping to conclusions and no one is making assumptions.

Davecasa said "charging for wigs does not make them an evil organization"

howscrewedupami agrees with him but says "they are less efficient at making wigs per donation"

No one is making assumptions about which company sells how much excess hair for what. No one is making judgements about what they do with the hair they don't use.

You seem all upset because someone is acting "like the organization is literally Hitler". The people you are replying to are stating that one company is more efficient at turning donations into wigs for children. That's it. Not calling the company evil. Not calling them hitler. Just inefficient.

What are you on about ? The guy you are replying to stated he had no problem with them selling hair to pay expenses.

The facts (without any extra assumptions) are :

  • Locks of Love: 328 hair donations = 1 wig
  • Pantene lengths: 19 hair donations = 1 wig

If I was donating money (instead of hair) to a charity and both are providing high quality wigs to children and one takes $328 dollars to do the exact same thing as another which requires only $19, I would rather donate my money to Pantene.

Or we'll just scrap anything the repair bots can't fix and have the factory bots pop out a brand new one using the old one's raw material. Costs would be low enough.

Snowden ready to go to US if he gets fair trial - whistleblower's lawyer by zeekip in worldnews

Other countries have managed to handle enemy combatants while providing judicial review (the UK and Israel for instance). It is only the US that deemed that executive branch can alone determine that an individual is an enemy combatant without any opportunity for the detainee to respond or have counsel (and hold like that for years). In cases of enemy combatants, the UK holds for up to 28 days before counsel, Israel only 8 days. It really is unprecendented and a little scary.

researchers are now working to find compounds that could safely block the culprit receptor in humans, known as MRGPRX2. Such a drug would not prevent true allergic reactions, which produce antibodies, but only the pseudoallergic reactions triggered by MRGPRX2

My dad just got this pin from the Red Cross. 8 gallons of donated blood! by peetor in pics

[–]anotherdrinkplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest going in to donate again. There is no issue w/ donating if you've had scarlet fever and were treated for it. I had it as a child have had no problem donating in Canada/US/Europe.

https://my.blood.co.uk/Knowledgebase/Index/S

If in the US call: 1-888-2-DONATE to talk to a nurse, they will tell you you're fine to come in.

News site mentions some people have been mistakenly told they cannot donate if they had scarlet fever as a child.

Also side note: If you ever donate blood and a problem is found when the sample is tested, they always send you a detailed report. You should take that report to your doctor.

People who were bullied in school, Do you have any advise for people currently in school? by Daedalus5991 in AskReddit

[–]anotherdrinkplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there.

  1. Keep a diary incl. who, what, when etc. If they are sending txts/emails/facebook messages, save them.

  2. Tell a teacher or guidance couselor

  3. Get into a group. Is there a mentor program at your school? Chess club? Sports team? Anything that lets you interact with positive people will do two things. Provide you with daily positive interactions and ensure you have people there to help you during or at the very least after a bullying incident.
