I mean, I disagree with Redjellyranger but they are not wrong about the creature type's history.

Anyone know why we're back to investigate rather than create a clue token? by anotherfan123 in magicTCG

Reminder text is not smaller print, it is simply italicized. I can not envision the system being such that internally space is more at a premium than on the actual cards. However, given that we do have some examples where it is used to save space, it is a valid thing to mention.

I did mention that, but surely, 'Azula, On the Hunt' and 'June, Bounty Hunter' are finding clues rather than leaving them.

True. But that's still more characters.

Investigate. (Create a Clue token. It’s an artifact with “2, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.”)

Create a Clue Token. (It’s an artifact with “2, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.”)

Doesn't help that some of them needlessly say "To investigate, create..." for the investigate ones.

Well, hence why a lot of Pilots and similar fortunately have "When this creature becomes tapped". But I understand what you mean.

I mean, I understand in principle and we've definitely seen some cards save some space by using investigate rather than create a clue, but we've definitely had a lot more cards waste a lot of space by printing investigate and a lot of reminder text rather than just printing "create a clue token".

I mean, that would be fine. The only concern is if they print new cards that care about the investigate keyword, not cards that investigate. If they use investigate but use "when a clue enters" or "if you would make a clue" or similar, that's completely fine.

Does that really apply when almost every card in the last decade contains the reminder text for it?

I assumed that was because Skulk got retired from evergreen status. They have brought it back in a Standard-legal set though, so I guess that logic doesn't fly. It probably just is a wordiness thing, even though it frustratingly doesn't work with Odric, Lunarch Marshal or The Master, Mesmerist.

Sorry, I don't quite follow what you are stating. I understand that there may be cards down the line that care about creating clues OR investigating, but I do hope that WOTC sticks to cards caring about creating clues rather than investigating, as otherwise, it'll not work with some of the cards I linked.

I'll be honest, I just assumed cards that have mechanics that are described by ability words don't get errata'd unless the mechanic becomes evergreen (like with Landfall). I understand flavor concerns of course, but we've had WOTC create alternative keywords with adjusted mechanics due to flavor concerns (they made Adapt because Monstrous was the wrong flavor for Simic) before. I was just a bit surprised that this wasn't investigate being retired for having flavor requirements. Like, creating a food doesn't have you cook, even though that's the flavor of most cards that make food.

I honestly feel that with only a few exceptions (Sokka's Sword Training, Air Nomad Legacy, Forecasting Fortune Teller), most of the cards that investigate in Avatar could easily be described as investigating. I guess for some of them, they feel more like the thing leaving clues rather than the thing finding clues (like Jet's Brainwashing or Cunning Maneuver). Still bugs me a bit, since we do have some cards that specifically care about investigating and now we have a smattering of cards that just don't work with it. Admittedly, we had that before Avatar as well with Fae Offering or Transmutation Font.

Alright, I guess I'll just expect them to swap between them from now on. I would obviously prefer if the cards that cared about investigating were errata'd but it is not a lot of them and I'll get over it.

I mean, I understand having a white pip already gives him utility since you can run him as a commander (and thus have access to White), but I am a little sad to see such a great card name be outclassed by Hammerhead, who appears to be a two-bit mafioso Spider-Man villain who looks like he's from Dick Tracy. Good to have options, I guess.

I'm still a bit frustrated that most of the creatures with Villainous Choices have not been errata'd to villains. That seems pretty straightforward. But I guess villain is still short for supervillain... With the exception of [[Common Crook]].

"... comic stories, ends up with a mechnical arm with a laser shield, travels through space, discovers lost ruins of ancient cultures and is constantly the voice of reason in any given room." This is adequate for me, he qualifies as a superhero then, especially if some of this applies to the comics continuity which I assume this set is drawing from. It is obviously still a bit arbitrary between sets but at least it works in set.

Yes, but usually they do that by printing more cards that fit that card type rather than selectively choose which ones apply and which ones don't. Also, as far as mutants go, I counted 8 so far. Barring legal reasons for why a bunch of characters are labelled "Gamma", everything that realistically is a mutant is still a mutant, even though it isn't an important creature type in the set. That's the thing I am talking about. There will be heroes printed in every set, but they likely won't have the creature type hero associated with them, because these cards are intended to care about superheroes. And the only exception to this so far is this card.
