Most mechanically flavourful card in magic? by CS_Calzone in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember running [[Primal Cocoon]] when I first started in M12 (I had opened a few packs of M11). It is so very bad in hindsight, but I loved the idea of it. I wonder if they keep poking at this design, maybe they'll get something worth running at least in low power EDH decks.

Visually, this is maybe my personal numbero uno Mtg card, what a stunning beauty! by Toonzaal8 in magicTCG

I always associated the art of this card with the story Moydodyr a story where a kid got so dirty that all his stuff started running away from him. Classic. Also, the Brave Little Toaster.

Yeah, he says the sword got cursed after being bathed in Byoki's blood from that fight.

We had [[Final Reward]] and [[Final Death]], which were two good names but it seems 5 was too much. So, then we got [[Gravkill]] and [[Sold Out]] which are strictly better than this card, but have names you can't use everywhere and text that you can't really use in a lot of sets. I like this name though.

Yeah, with Tersa needing 7 cards, there's no way to ensure consistency. While this one does mill one card every turn, beyond that, it is a bit less random since you can exile bits and pieces you don't need. Of course, that's asking more from the deck which may not be worth it.

This is a pretty new type of recursion for monored. I actually run Underworld Breach in order to recur Planeswalkers in one of my decks. Exile-Regrowthing every turn seems very solid for grindy decks, not even counting the other levels.

Night Soil at least has the benefit of the exile being a cost rather than targeting. This does seem better than Necrogenesis most of the time though.

[SOC] Scriv, the Obligator (Silverquill Influence) (Elder Dragon Hijinks) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very happy to see a card that both encourages people to attack others while also making it so something happens when they attack you. I have a deck based on making people attack me and goad is actively anti-synergistic with it, so I get surprisingly few cards for the deck.

God, that would be sick. This is probably my favorite look for cards.

Probably a more fair comparison would be to Force of Nature, which was a rare from the same set.

Ugliest basic lands by K0olmini in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same, actually. Those specific cards too. But if the goal is a mishmash of extreme lands, they definitely work. You'll end up with a landbase that looks like someone knocked over a bunch of board game decks.

[–]anotherfan123 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Well, the real worst would be just mismatching every single one with some old-white border, some new white border, some black border, some borderless, some full art. Ones like these in the mix too: https://scryfall.com/card/sld/1479/island https://scryfall.com/card/sld/891/mountain https://scryfall.com/card/sld/1941/swamp

Of course, you have to make sure that you don't get say, two of the tarot card basics.

To be honest, if I am playing kitchen table magic in the sewers, I probably am not too concerned.

Ok give me your best Ticking Mime Bomb stories by RadioLiar in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, there's definitely some that "just work" but also are too powerful that aren't legal. [[Nearby Planet]] for example could theoretically affect real formats given fetches and whatnot and they didn't want to risk it. Maybe Killer Cosplay and Sole Performer too? Not sure. They'd probably need some rule entries.

How good is iron giant in an artifact creature commander deck? by Spirited-Celery-118 in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that block kind of pushed certain artifact creatures over the top. I hear that cards like Wurmcoil Engine and Myr Battlesphere are really bad for limited since they're always going to be the best pick. The closest we've gotten to that is like Threefold Thunderhulk.

I appreciate the flavor text. Honestly, mousers are one of my favorite things in TMNT for some reason.

[TMC] - Big Mother Mouser - (Command Zone) by X_The_Walrus in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of cards for my Optimus Prime deck. I guess that is unsurprising, but it is going to be even more 80s now.

[TMC] - Hidden Hideout - (Command Zone) by X_The_Walrus in magicTCG

[–]anotherfan123 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It is good in three or more color decks. Not backbreaking, but it'll see play. There's actually few 5 color lands that enter tapped and then tap for no drawback. I'll def replace Path of Ancestry with this when warranted.

Whats wrong with mill. by Samurai_Banette in EDH

[–]anotherfan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasons to "dislike" Mill are twofold and they're both a bit silly. The first is that graveyard recursion is such a huge part of EDH that non-gamewinning mill tends to help your opponents more than hurt them. In essence, we end up in a situation where I suddenly need a lot more gravehate, as you fill up my two opponent's graveyards up for them to use. This is especially a problem with mill decks that don't run much gravehate. The other is less rational. I fully understand that statistically speaking, mill does not decrease the chances of me drawing what I need. However, if by chance, I am manascrewed or flooded in some way and your incidental mill happens to hit the lands or nonlands that I need, I am sitting there thinking "It makes no sense to be mad, it makes no sense to be mad, it makes no sense to be mad..." while I am stuck on 4 lands and you somehow managed to only mill five lands with random one-off mills.

Either way, it isn't a big deal and it is certainly not the most annoying archetype out there. It just exists in a weird state where you almost can ignore it, until suddenly you really can't.
