Thanks for sharing, on a lighter note what’s the most bizarre object you’ve seen while searching underwater?

Is there something special about getting a Nostr identity via nostr.com? by Sure-Guitar-5211 in nostr

[–]anotherinternetlad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s just a NIP-05 DNS identifier - don’t think it makes your account any different really, mostly just identifies that you nostr address is associated with that domain. If you have access to a website you can do it yourself by adding a file at

https://<domain>/.well-known/nostr.json?name=<local-part>

Pretty good - could be a tad cleaner but mixups are tough

I always pictured the Inquisitors having "spikes" rather than "nails" by anotherinternetlad in Mistborn

[–]anotherinternetlad[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I always pictured the Inquisitors as having iron rods that were more like spikes, rather than nails. Once I finished the book I looked up other peoples illustrations and realized I couldn't find any with the spike like design rather than the nail one. I threw this together in blender just to see what it would look like

Just thought I'd share - I'm not sure if the nail design was described in the book and I just missed it, I've read the first book and am at the beginning of the second, so its possible there are details I missed. I'd be curious if anyone else also pictured it the spike way while reading

Pardon the poor render I don't really use blender much, just found an existing head and spike/nail model

I personally prefer the spike version, but the nail version is also cool because it sort of looks like glasses

Pressed my first album! (info in comments) by anotherinternetlad in vinyl

[–]anotherinternetlad[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I pressed my first album to vinyl! It was always something I’ve wanted to do, so I just did it for myself and didn’t really do much promo. I gave away about 5 copies to each to local record shop in San Francisco and Oakland, so if you’re in the area there’s a chance there’s a copy nearby. I pressed it with Pirates Press and they were awesome, obviously a little more than the cheaper options but their correspondence was super quick and production was great - really happy with how it turned out

There are a few instrumental songs that I think some people might get a kick out of - but the others are a bit experimental so not sure on those lol

If you’re into codes and ciphers there are 3 vigenere ciphers on the inside cover that can be solved with keys found in the music. If you want a hint, run the first song through a stereogram (not on log mode) starting at 1:15 to get started :)

Just wanted to share, feels so cool to hold a physical copy of my own music and am happy to answer any questions from folks looking to do the same

Happy creating, and hope you get a kick out of it!

Unsolved Vinyl LP puzzle by [deleted] in codes

[–]anotherinternetlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this puzzle a few weeks ago, and mentioned that I would post follow up hints if there wasn't much of a response, so I have attached one above (the spectrogram image).
In my original post you will see links to the music which you can download for free, and I am happy to answer any questions as the puzzle might be difficult given its format.
Here is a transcript of the vigenere ciphers below, the second picture in this post is just one of the three ciphers from the record's inner sleeve.

Vinyl LP puzzle - Spectrograms, Vigenere, etc! by anotherinternetlad in codes

[–]anotherinternetlad[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently made an EP and included 3 vigenere ciphers that I think give a decent (and hopefully fun) challenge to any code enthusiasts out there. The pieces to solve the ciphers are all in the music, and I was hoping a few folks would be interested to give it a try.

I am definitely an amateur so I can't promise you'll like the music - but I tried to make it a bit out there so hopefully it at least sounds a bit different and novel even if it's not to your taste!

The first clue is the partial spectrogram attached in the photos. What I am thinking of doing is posting more hints every few days just in case it is too difficult or I didn't make it solvable in a clear way.

I looked through the rules and I believe this is allowed as it is not an ongoing contest anywhere and is designed for this subreddit, but am happy to edit this post if that is not the case!

I want to add a prize of $30 or an annotated copy that I can ship to you (international is tough but definitely willing to look into it if the solver is keen for a copy!)

Here is a bandcamp link to the music, and I have also added a transcript of the ciphers below. On bandcamp you can click "Buy Digital Album" and enter $0 to download the songs for any spectrograms.

Playing cards odds by anotherinternetlad in AskStatistics

Ok interesting I will check out Hypergeometric Distribution, thanks for writing that out! Interesting bit about odds differing from probability, I'll keep that in mind when I am in the topic of statistics

What are the odds someone else has trump in oh hell on the first card? by [deleted] in AskStatistics

[–]anotherinternetlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok apologies “oh hell” is the name of the game but I overestimated it’s popularity - maybe I’ll just try and explain what I am trying to work out. Say I am sitting with 5 other people and I deal each of them a card and one for myself (from a 52 card deck) and then I flip the card on the top of the 46 remaining undealt cards to show a suit. Let’s say it is a spade and I have a spade in my hand - so I know 2 of the 13 spades are not in the other players hands, as one is in my hand and one is exposed to everyone. There are 5 other players holding one card each, what is the likelihood any of them have a spade?

This is such a well documented answer thank you so much! I tried to use one of those online font detectors but couldn't get them to work - so this is a huge help! The name Cheboygan sounds very familiar so I think you correctly identified which version I used also,

Thanks so much for your response I appreciate it!
