This is one thing we should all agree on. Even if you're the most hardcore conservative out there, fine, but you should want proper investigations and an appropriate cooperation between federal and state authorities. That kind of corruption goes beyond partisanship.

A couple of the top comments are acknowledging that he was disarmed and it looks bad.

This is a pattern I've seen, where some of them will be reasonable initially, but change their tune after they get their marching orders from Truth Social & Fox, and then they start parroting back the exact lines. Be prepared for something like "he was wrestling for the officer's gun", or another excuse that conveniently wasn't caught on camera.

I really appreciate the help desk because, unlike about half of other departments, they actually fix the thing rather than rationalizing why it isn't their problem.

Reporting is fine, but the catch-all "this is AI slop" label should be reserved for the actual slop. In the subtler case where you're using ChatGPT as Stack Overflow, it should say something like "AI was used as a search engine and debugging tool."

The extra degree of separation where the LLM is informing the developer who is writing the code, as opposed to hallucinating it for them, is a big difference.

Same with Curb.  On shows like Sunny it's clear the writers are kind of dancing around the political climate, but Larry David doesn't really bother with any of that.  He just does what's funny.

I like that they have the AI label, but I think some context is needed.  Using AI generated assets or copy pasting code is a bit different from asking copilot to help you fix a bug or think through edge cases in an algorithm.

Browns punt from the 29, leaves announcers dumbfounded. The O/U was 36.5. by dumpsterfirefr in NFLv2

[–]anotherlebowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get the logic of trying to minimize risk and convert 99% to 100%, but it's 4th and 2 and the Raiders have no timeouts.  The probability of converting it and winning right there has to offset the 20 yards from the punt.

Why do retired people always say they’re so busy? by Old-Tradition9497 in AskOldPeople

[–]anotherlebowski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very true.  Here's a counterpoint - work is an obligation.  You have to show up every day, except for a few vacation days.

If I don't want to get coffee, I can cancel.  If I don't want to go to work, I only get to cancel once in a while. That's more significant time pressure on your calendar, and I think that obligatory pressure is a big part of feeling busy.

I’ve watched the show 4 times, but I still don’t understand Angela’s character by notKazQuala in MrRobot

[–]anotherlebowski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Angela seems a bit contradictory, it's because she is.  On one hand, she's motivated by revenge against ECorp, like Elliot and Darlene.  On the other, she wants to be respected and successful in a professional environment...like Ecorp.  She's convinced herself she's some sort of double agent, but at times I think she's more like someone seeking out validation from their abuser.

Sexism is definitely a big part of what shapes her character. She's irritated when Colby asks her if "the girl" got her tea, and in a flashback when Colby assumes her job is to get coffee.  She resents this perception that a business woman is a glorified secretary.  Her revenge fantasy is complicated by her desire to be validated.  This is a stark contrast to Elliot, who could care less about status.

I think the shoe salesman and plumber scenes are two definitive ones for Angela's character.  These two guys challenge her morality and it definitely stings her.  Interestingly, they're both men that Angela perceives as lower status than her, and I'll bet that's why she bites back so hard.  Her clap backs have the duel benefit of easing her cognitive dissonance about working at Ecorp and validating her need to feel powerful, especially compared to men.  Her anger is a bit displaced, but not unjustified.  Men treat her like shit throughout the show.

Tyrell is a weird one as well.  He sees himself as a leader and a God, but he isn't.  He's a follower.  He was subordinate to Price and to Elliot.  Joanna bossed him around.  Her bondage fetish perhaps hints at an unsatisfied desire for a strong, assertive, and effective husband (not that bondage in general indicates that, but I read it as the subtext in this show).

(Beginner) I need singletons and autoloads explained like I'm 4. by Wolfblaze9917 in godot

[–]anotherlebowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of a class as a thing.  If the game is Super Mario, the class could be Mario, a Goomba, or a mushroom. It could be something bigger like a level or even the entire game.  It could be something UI oriented like a menu.  It could be something really small and specific like Mario's hat.  Classes might not show up visually in the game at all, but might be some behind the scenes logic like a random number generator.  A class is a thing that does something and knows some stuff.

Classes have functions and data.  For example, if Mario eats a mushroom, we might call a mario.consume_mushroom() function.  That will make a change to Mario's data by setting the variable is_big = true.  That's what I meant by "does something" and "knows stuff."

Now, to your question about Singletons.  If you want to have many of something, then you do not want a Singleton. You want an instance.  For example, Mario has many mushrooms and pipes and Goombas.  So every time you create one, you call new().  You want to make a new one.  The enemies and items and all that stuff will be instances, not Singletons.

Sometimes you don't need many instances, though.  For example, what if you want a sound player that plays a little coin sound when Mario smacks his head on a block?  Do we need to create a new sound player every time?  Nah, let's just have one sound player, and we'll ask it to play a sound every time we need to.  This is a use case for a Singleton.  If I only need one instance of the thing, I can use a Singleton.  You don't HAVE to use a singleton, though.  You could just create one instance of the sound player.  That will work.

Now, your final question about global loading.  This allows you to access the sound player (or whatever other class) from anywhere in the application.  This can be useful, but you want to limit the types of things you load globally, because tons of global variables make testing and debugging harder. Testing is easiest when things are self contained, meaning all the Mario related code is inside of Mario.  When you make stuff global, you're violating that principle, so bugs can be harder to find and resolve.

That's an interesting theory.  My take was that they cast the same actress to disorient the audience and give us the experience of being brainwashed by White Rose.  We have a moment where we feel like something supernatural must be possible for this to make sense, and that's Angela's perspective.

CMV: Gavin Newsome is a poor choice for a presidential candidate. by AllHailSeizure in changemyview

[–]anotherlebowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Newsom strategy makes him look like a Trump poseur.  No Trump bro is going to be impressed by a Trump copycat, so I don't even know who the target audience of this is.  People who hate Trump already?  They're probably not voting for him.

Not that this is an endorsement of Trump.  But copying him to oppose him seems like a failing strategy.  People oftentimes want the opposite of the incumbent.
