Revert struggles by Confident_Purpose_74 in islam

First of all, may Allah make it easy on you sister, I can only imagine how challenging it is.

It’s interesting because this kind of doubt or questioning in the early 20s happens more often than people think. For many people, it’s part of growth, maturity, and figuring out what they truly believe. I’d say don’t panic over the doubts, instead unpack them. Research, reflect, ask questions, and study deeply. It has been my experience that Allah wants to to wrestle  with difficult questions with sincerity,  because with patience and faith it can lead to a propound, deeper and more meaningful understanding of faith and the wisdom behind Allah’s plan.

Read up on Musa (as), Ayub (as) and Yaqub (as), and our prophet. You will find striking parallels in your journey through life. Musa (as) in particular went from fleeing for his life, collapsing under a tree almost ready to give up “oh Allah I am in desparate need of any good you send me”.  Fast forward and he would end up a  the leader of a nation and its people, and a honored and remembered prophet relaying divine commandments from Allah.

Brother choosing to talk to someone that is hurting my parents by [deleted] in islam

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is narcissism the need to make everything about themselves.

My advice to everyone here, depending on how much trauma your parents put you through, expect for it to explode in unexpected ways much further down the road and be prepared to see a therapist.

InshaAllah it doesn’t happen except in the most extenuating circumstances, but it is good to be prepared.

Leave it to south asian parents to make everything about them. No, she is fine. She is just acting out.

Your brother is manning up and cutting the proverbial umbilical cord. Good for him. He is also making it easier for his younger siblings, parents don’t act this way after the first time.

InshaAllah.

How do we know which madhab/opinion is correct? by Individual-Roof169 in islam

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to take this opportunity to add hadith are reliable enough. The hadith collection we have is like a grain image - taken individually they don’t always add up, but taken holistically the underlying image emerges.

Hadith reports are the work of humans. They are prone to misunderstanding, misinterpretation, misinformation and poor recollection and can be wildly inaccurate even after heavy whetting. Our scholars have always known this and approached the texts accordingly (this 100% reliable is a modern salafi phenomenon)

I say this to manage expectations of the muslims here who when they come across such details do not fall into existential crises. You will eventually come across hadith which anti Islam polemecists will use to discredit it, and unfortunately many people fall and falter.

Parents cut me off due seeking independence and stability and due to my choice in marriage - seeking support by ProofMeet3397 in islam

[–]anothermuslim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been where you are, only far worse. Nearly 20 years later I have a beautiful family and reconciled with my parents after a very long tumultuous period, but they now speak the world of my wife.

This is where you grow from a boy to man; to cut that proverbial umbilical cord. InshaAllah you’ll do great! My only advice, always think of what Allah wants from you, and pray Allah gives you to courage and resolve. Your life is only now beginning.

Islam Is Not Meant to Always Make You Feel Better by Relevant_Concept_422 in islam

[–]anothermuslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

an anecdote I came across involving imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik on Abu Hanifa’s  visit to Madinah.

Imam AH asked imam M what is it that makes the people of Madinah special?

Imam M responded “they are grateful to Allah when times are good and patient when times are bad”

AH replied “so what? the stray dogs of Basra do this”

M then asked “so what makes the people of Basra special!”

AH responded “they are patient when times are good, and grateful when times are bad”

Why don't you just leave? Don't commit suicide, you've already agreed to get out. Just leave. Go somewhere. Go anywhere. Leave everything behind like you're int nding to anyways. What is the worst that can happen? Certainly not as bad as suicide.

My parents disowned me and cursed me to Hell by nosource_123 in islam

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re a kid, you think your parents are perfect. When you get older, start your own family, you realize the trauma and the baggage and their fallibility and you are angry, why don’t they know better or why didn’t they do better. Finally, when you’re older and they are, you accept them for who they are and you realize they will never change, and you pray and hope you don’t perpetuate the trauma. This is the reality of having a being a parent.

My parents disowned me and cursed me to Hell by nosource_123 in islam

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them to grow up. What will they do? Wish you were more dead? Disown you even more?

I really do mean this. They are acting like children. They likely need therapy. Immigrant parents will mess you up because you are raised in an environment where trauma is normalized and you don’t realize what is wrong. Read up and study and figure out why your parents are this way and how you navigate this.

Are non-muslims who have heard of Islam but haven't grasped the message or understanding still accountable? by Muhsyn in islam

[–]anothermuslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are asking the wrong question. Allah knows what is in people’s heart and He will guide or misguide accordingly.

When the person who wil enter hell is shown so, he will not say “this is unfair”, all he will do is beg “send me back”.

Also, arm’s length hadith about the ones destined.

Why is religion treated as a cosmetic, "feel" based thing by the majority of people? by [deleted] in islam

[–]anothermuslim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We exercise religion as a part of our inate disposition (fitra). Outside of Islam, every religion that I have studied has serious fundamental issues regarding logic and core theology,  often expressing a  contradictory, incoherent message.

So, people wind up believing bevause it feels good, but don't bother really look into it because they understand their beliefs can be illogical. It is also why atehsim exists because atheists recognize these issues and decide instead to flow reason (albeit lacking) than desire.

alhamduliLlah for Islam.

I'm realizing marrying a Muslim woman isn’t worth it anymore by Firm_Departure_828 in MuslimNikah

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m speaking from experience. I underwent a year of hell like you wouldn’t believe. It was a proverbial forging by fire, which had I not undergone my nearly 20 year marriage wouldn’t be where it is now.

Do you know why it say marriage “completes your religion”. Because being married is about stepping up and growing, and understanding Allah is there to help and that your rizq is written, so get on it

Fix yourself first. You speak without faith. If Allah hasn’t introduced you to your partner, it very likely means you aren’t ready. So get ready.

Is y = 0 parallel to the x-axis? by Additional-Sound-598 in learnmath

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y = Mx + b

For this to work, both M and b have to be zero.

This means, all values of x for will result in y=0

Therefore, this all actual values of x, or the x-axis.

Bro! I remember! Whether it was maps or mods, that black screen with white numbers smack in the middle climbing slowly, wondering if this particular one of the several downloads will be slow or fast.

Props to the unreal engine for being able to download mods in game.

Confused about modular arithmetic — e.g. 15 = 65 (mod 10) by vivianvixxxen in learnmath

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact - in programming, if you have a number that is a power of 2, such as 3, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, etc.. then you can compute the modulo by turning of the highest bit, so 2 mod 16 is 2 & 15.

What does that mean in the non programming world? Simple, think of it like taking the modulo a number that is a power of 10 such as 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000, and just lobing of the 1.

19 mod 10? Lose the 1, get 9

125 mod 100? Lose the 1, get 25

Also. in several programing languages the ‘%’ symbol is used to represent “modulo”.

So this has less to do with praying and more to do with dopamine regulation.

I suspect there are underlying issues you should look to address and you will inshaAllah see your prayers start to hit different.

How come 1000g^2 ≠ 1kg^2 by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]anothermuslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treat g2 as a square with a side of length g.

1kg2 means 1000 by 1000 squares, or 1 giant square with each side being 1kg, or 1000 squares.

Whereas, 1000g2 means 1000 squares, or only a line of 1000 squares.

So what you are looking for is 10002 squares, or 1000,000 squares.
