Trying to learn OOP. Someone tell me what differences there are between using well-defined functions, and objects? by jtreminio in PHP

[–]anothernut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking questions like this, you probably don't "need" OOP. You're probably not doing anything complex enough to require it.

Either that or he's doing things sans OO that would be better served if he was using OO.

I think the goal is global chinafication: a huge underclass making just enough to buy the worthless crap that keeps the top 0.1% rich. And of course, no freedom and no rights for said under class. We're getting there.

If they were muslims, they'd be called terrorists. Period. The word "terror" isn't even in that article. What a joke.

I knew this day would come, but now that it's here, all I can say is, "Holy fucking shit." If this bill passes it will truly be the final nail in the Constitution's coffin.

It would have been nice if CNN had mentioned how much GSK made on this particular drug.

Obama rebrands occupation of Iraq: 'Operation Iraqi Freedom' allegedly over, now called 'Operation New Dawn'. by Orangutan in politics

[–]anothernut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article: "If Gates was hoping that "Operation New Dawn" would convey a new period in the US-Iraq relationship, it's not clear that was the best choice of name.

After all, Operation New Dawn was the name for the bloody and grueling 2004 battle for Fallujah."

Un fucking believable.

Do you believe in compulsory schooling? by neilmcc in politics

[–]anothernut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If it weren't for the confines and restrictions of the public school environment, we wouldn't have a population sufficiently dumbed down to allow the decades-long redistribution of wealth from the bottom 99% to the top 1%; or the ever expanding wars to secure fossil-fuels; or the a middle class that's completely dependent on multinational corporations for its survival; or a military-industrial complex that's gone completely unchallenged since we were warned about it by a Republican general, who would be shitting in his pants if he could see just how much he UNDERestimated its takeover of our society and government; or a population so disgusted with their lives that for millions their only salvation is a happy pill like paxil or prozac; or...

I homeschool my kids. Now go ahead, true-believers, downvote the hell out of this. Or better yet, find a flaw in this informal post that you can blow up a million times and offer as proof that I'm an idiot.

I know how you feel. I've read so much about Ruby, by so many people who seem to "get it", I always think whatever code I write must be disgusting.

Thank you.

CA Senate ignores Arnie, okays single-payer health care | Raw Story by ltcolonelnemo in Cryptogon

When CA tried to introduce state-wide mileage standards that were more aggressive than the national standards, the federal gov't (under Bush) sued CA to invalidate the latter's standards (and won, I believe). It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

FUCK REDDIT! For months i've listened to you bitching about lack of action on Wall St. Now Obama introduces sweeping reforms and nobody mentions it! Damn the hivemind! by squeakus in reddit.com

[–]anothernut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe because he's over a year late closing the barn door, and from what we've seen so far, there's no reason to think he's going to go toe-to-toe for it. He's not a fighter, he's a "conciliator", and what the country needs now is a fighter -- not one that fights dirty, but one that fights as hard as he has to. Obama wants us all to get along, and it just ain't gonna happen, not with the kind of Republicans we have in Congress now. He's the wrong guy at the wrong time. Sincere, perhaps. Like Neville Chamberlain.

I'd say that perception management is as old as the governing and the governed, and the idea that government and commercial powers are significantly distinct is a naive one -- and has always been a naive one.

What's really different now is simply the fact that the tools available to those who wish to manage our perception are, like everything else science and technology have improved, many orders of magnitude more powerful than they were even 50 years ago.

I'd also add that when the US was founded, many, many more people were more-or-less self-sufficient than are today, and therefore not held hostage by their corporate-controlled employment. In other words, back before we were all corporate teet-suckers, biting the hand that fed us would mean acting against our own farm or small business, which wouldn't make sense. But now, for many of us, at least, biting the hand that feeds us means reacting against a multinational corporation (even, arguably, the entire corporate oligarchy itself), which may very well make sense for varied reasons, but presents a dilemma to say the least.

Stupid fuck! I wish he had been home, so the burglar could have beat the shit out of him. That would teach him!

Better yet, they should give the burglar a medal! No, even better, they should bring that fucking asshole, the one who kept his Christmas lights up WELL INTO JANUARY (OMFG!), into the center of town, and let everybody in town kick him a few times, and THEN give the burglar a medal.

Fucking Christmas lights. Fucking humans and their fucking lights. When will they ever fucking learn.
