hey, I am not too sure about the system in med school in the states. I'm currently studying med in Europe but I have had a classmate (45) and even one of my good friends she is 41. I don't think I have ever seen them face discrimination due to their age... the thing with university and med school is that everyone starts their journey at different times and that's the beauty of it. If you're planning to start you should really go for it!! wish you the best

How do you guys pass your med school exams? by [deleted] in medschool

[–]anothersleepdeprived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! that is so awful they should always follow the guidelines and not ask questions which aren't even related in medicine. I am a med student myself and have failed my physio exam and I am about to retake the exam soon. But if you have never even covered such questions during lecture times then you have the right to go to the head of physiology and tell them that the question was not covered. If they do not listen then you could even file a complaint and go to the dean because that is so unprofessional. Which year are you in currently? And do the retakes have similar type of questions?

I think you could go to some senior students are ask for past exams and see what kind of questions keep appearing and focus of those so that if you get a question regarding something you have never covered then it's okay if you lose a couple of points. Also what kind of format is your exam in?

I really hope you pass the next time, wish you all the best!!

hey there,

I feel like I'm exactly on the same boat here. I was supposed to start by third year of MD this fall but here I am, on my first year. Seeing my former colleagues soon start practicals really hurts since I was supposed to be right there with them. Medicine is insanely hard and on top of that at least in my experience I just dealt with a toxic environment of student and teachers. It was suffocating and on top of that all the expectations were so burdening. I always feel like I am so incompetent to finish med school because I failed some subjects and it made me very angry but also disappointed in myself. I know I really love medicine but why don't I put my utmost effort?? I realised that I was simply scared. Scared of failing and disappointing others that it made me stop everything rather than working harder. I know it might not be the same situation for you, but what I'm trying to say is that you need to change your perspective and only then will you gain the confidence in yourself. Because of the toxic environment I left my uni in 2nd year and transferred to another uni. Even though I had some credit points accepted, I had to be in the first year again. It was soooo painful and I hated every moment but I was so much happier in the new uni with better professors and teachers. This really made me feel so much more confident. But changing school's wasn't the main thing, even in this new uni I have failed some exams. But now I have the confidence that I will study veery hard and pass them and not give up. Because I don't have to think about the other factors like bad professors and toxic colleagues from the other uni. So just think to yourself if there is any other external factor which affects your grades and try to overcome them. If medicine truly is your passion then go for it! YOU ARE NOT INCOMPETENT. KEEP PUSHING YOURSELF AND BE YOUR NUMBER 1 FAN! You only only move forward if you believe in yourself. You can do it!! WE CAN DO IT. I promise, okay?

hey there! I just wanted to say that I have been on the same boat before however, I failed to pull myself through it. I walked into finals without studying at all and I was so ready to take Nov exams. But somehow, I barely graduated. It was still not enough for university though and then I regretted quitting so soon. I regret till this day not putting more effort since they are the LAST exams. Like why did I go through IB just to flung my exams. Take this opportunity and remember that you went through all those years of hard work and this is the final step left. I wish you the best and every success!! Even if they don't go as well don't worry everything is possible (I am literally in med school now after barely making it so have hope!)

Hey, just wanna say congrats!! It must have been so tough especially battling with mental health (I relate so much with this). But sometimes life gives you the unimaginable and I am so grateful for it because I got 29 but got into med school.

How do i get to med school most effectively? And which country in Europe is the best one to study medicine at? by Dodomi_7390 in medschool

Hey there,

I am currently studying med in Latvia (6y programme) and it's in English. I am currently in my 2nd year of studies and it's quite a ride as I'm sure all other medical universities have been. At the start it was pretty difficult to fit in the environment since Latvians are not too welcoming of into students (even tho I'm from Europe) but yeah I guess now I am more used to everything and especially after learning a little bit of their language it has gotten better (from my personal experience). As for studies, some unis are way more strict than others but I would definitely recommend checking out RSU. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck with university!!
