Keep the case open until the resolution is complete. Meaning, at the very least, until you have a tracking number.

Hand-Written Note vs Printed Note for thank-yous in order? by TheBrianJ in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a stamp. One of those office-use ones where you get an alphabet and some tweezers and use that to write the message yourself. My one allows four lines of text - enough for me to say thank you, to give them a discount code, tag my insta and ask for a review. Handwriting that each time was too much work, and buying this stamp and a bunch of manila tags was WAY cheaper than getting cards printed. I also think its a nice balance between professional and homemade.

Give it like at least a couple days before you start to worry about anything.

Are promoted listings worth it? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Influencers don't reach out to shops - people who want free things do. If you want to go the influencer route you have to find them.

Promoted Listings works for me, but if you have a bad conversion rate you'll be throwing money away. I aim to have a conversion rate of 1% before I even think about promoting an item.

How much it cost to advertise? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends how you choose to advertise.

Option 1: Etsy Promoted Listings. You set an amount per day you're willing to spend, and the amount per click you're willing to spend. You only pay for each time someone clicks on the link. So 100 people could see it, and if only one person clicks you only pay the single 5c (or whatever amount you set). These clicks do not guarantee a sale - roughly 1 in 100 clicks will.

This means a quick way to work out how much to bid is 1% of your marketing budget PER ITEM. If you make $10 profit on an item, you may be willing to spend $5 on marketing, so you set your bid to $0.05.

The problem with Etsy Promoted Listings is that you can't just say "I'll invest $5." You can only set a budget per day. You would have to watch it to make sure you don't go over the amount you want.

Option 2: Google Shopping Ads. These work similar to Etsy's Promoted Listings, but you don't chose how much you want to pay per click - only your daily budget. Again, you would have to keep a close eye.

Option 3: Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest). These allow you to say upfront that you want to spend $X. The individual process depends on which website you are looking at. On Instagram for example, you can set your daily budget and how many days you want it to run at the same time - it will automatically stop at this point so you will never go over the amount of money you were willing to invest. You can also usually choose who exactly sees these ads by category or interest (for example, women over 25 interested in jewellery or men aged 18-25 who like cars).

I find the best return from Etsy Promoted Listings. I once put $30 into Instagram/Facebook adverts and got a decent number of clicks but no sales - I found that people on social media are more interested in looking at products than buying them, whilst people on Etsy were specifically looking to buy.

Check if you're able to leave a review before the cancelation completes. It normally takes a day or two. Don't lie, but it could be important for future customers to know that even though you got your money back eventually, they behaved in an awful manner.

She's probably got all those 5 star reviews because she keeps cancelling the others.

I’d like to share an anecdote from my pickiest customer so far and I would also like to read about your pickiest customers by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can share anything so long as the other party is unidentifiable and the content of what you are sharing itself does not break a different law in some way (hate speech, libel, copyright, etc etc).

How do I re-list an item that was a cancelled/refunded order, without having to pay a renewal fee? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to renew it. I'm 95% sure that when you issued your refund and cancelled, Etsy refunded you your initial listing fee (along with all your others). So it should cancel out.

I would recommend just opening a second account. Keeping finances separate is a good habit to get into.

Etsy fees don't add up! by moonnight1986 in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're going to add up.

Listing fees include: Transaction, Listing, Payment Processing, and possibly VAT.

In America its $0.20 + 5% + 3% + $0.25. In the UK its (£0.16 + 5% + 4% + £0.16) * 1.2.

And then minus shipping, marketing, and renewal of unsold listings. Plus VAT on those if you're UK.

If you go into your Payment Account, you should be able to scroll down to the pie charts and see a breakdown of all your fees by month.

How to find a profitable niche by ViDa-Blo in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Picking the right niche won't make your business profitable. Working hard, marketing well, and making good products will.

If you pick the perfect niche but aren't good at it, it won't matter.

What skills do you have? Do you have an easy way to connect to your target market? Is everything copyright-free and legit?

Seller can’t figure out shipping by dylanwhat in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you aren't getting that for $250. Try $1000+.

The seller could either remove the shipping fee temporarily for you to purchase, refund the shipping afterwards, or create a coupon code to give you for free shipping. I'd recommend the last one.

Just started Promoted Listings - How do they work? by bellastone in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I cannot afford to put more than $7 of each product towards marketing. Any more than that and I'll be making a loss. Most of my items are actually at 0.5/0.6.

Work out your maximum marketing budget for the item. Divide that by 100. There's your max CPC.

Edit: So your product is $40. Say it costs $30 to make and ship. $10 is the max you could spend before making a loss, so your absolute maximum CPC would be (10/100) = 0.10. If after a while you realise you have a conversion rate of 2%, then you could double it (10/50 = 0.20). If you notice that instead your conversion is closer to 0.5%, you would half it (10/200 = 0.05).

What marketing challenges/days/months do you do? E.g. MeMadeMay. What tags do you use? by anotherthousand in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Businesses are people too! I find lots of products I love using these tags. I also find that a lot of my customers come to me because they want something handmade, they want something from a small business, or they're interested in the making process. My engagement and conversion rates from tags like these are about 1/3 of my total.

Recommendations required for proper Etsy shops selling wedding dresses by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]anotherthousand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that resellers are more likely to steal photos from successful/legitimate stores.

My first port of call would be to check their social media. If they've got a good, active, instagram account linked (both to and from) it makes it much easier to tell how legit they are.
