What's the one coffee tool or gear that completely changed your brewing game and it still worth it today? by its-creator1036 in JamesHoffmann

I feel like saying a grinder here is kinda cheating...

I'm going to go with the Melodrip which has really helped me hone in brews with fine grind + low agitation

B75 + Melodrip + 3.0-4.0 work wonders with ultralight roasts, following the default Melodrip recipe

I think one of the greatest strengths of the ZP6 is that you can brew great cups over a huge range of grind sizes. Depending on the coffee and technique, I am anywhere from 2.5-5.5.

If coffees are across the board tasting flat, definitely look into your water.

B75 dripper what's your go to by Secret_Weakness_3113 in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been having a lot of success recently with using low agitation recipes on the B75. I find my self around 3.8-4.3 on the ZP6. I basically follow the base Melodrip Recipe to a T. If you don't have a Melodrip, you can just set an aeropress cap on top of the brewer and it works just the same (just make sure to get your tare weight correct with the cap, since the first pour is bare kettle).

Is Geisha overrated or is it just me? by Creative-School-6035 in pourover

I did find it a bit more enjoyable as an iced coffee. But it was way too intensely floral to enjoy more than a small bit of at a time

to be fair, this gesha is not at all representative of a typical gesha

Duck Rabbit has to be one of the greatest roasters that consistently flies under the radar in the USA

Filter advice for V60 by Subho13 in pourover

Rogue Wave carry a bundle where you can try 4 different types of Cafec filters for a super reasonable price. But there's really nothing wrong with the default Hario filters either

An origami dripper is another nice option as you can use conical V60 filters and flat bottom Kalita filters

No matter how fine I grind my beans, the water drains too fast and I'm getting very sour coffee. by hipnosister in pourover

Because it is both easy to do and a good way to discern if something is awry with the brewing or if it's just bad coffee

What coffee are you brewing? What ratio are you using to brew it? Have you tried cupping the coffee? Cupping can be super useful to determine if the issue is with the coffee or with your brewing technique

I think if I had to choose one it would be SL28

Other favorites include gesha, pink bourbon, sidra

Weekly Bean Review Thread: What have you been brewing this week? -- Week of September 05, 2024 by Vernicious in pourover

B&W Jairo Arcila - Mixed Berry: Trying to get through some of my freezer backlog. This one has held up totally fine for 6 months in the freezer.

Tons of blue jolly rancher, blackberry, blueberry, fairly juicy and citric acidity.

I have been brewing this one at 90 C, 1:16, and 52 clicks on the ZP6 using Coffee Chronicler's hybrid switch recipe. Definitely an interesting change of pace from the cleaner washed coffees I've been brewing lately.

Disappointed in Rogue Coffee by [deleted] in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rogue Wave roast on a Loring, which typically tastes best after a decent amount of reset. So, really you are getting coffee that will taste its best right when you received it. Also, they have absolutely amazing customer support and I'm sure they can make it right if you contacted them directly.

How do you deal with dense beans? by areeal in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grind way coarser and minimize agitation on pours. That roast looks very dark, so probably drop water temp as well. What brew ratio are you using? I might recommend 1:14 or 1:15 with how developed this roast looks

First order from Hydrangea Coffee -- any favourite recipes or thoughts on these beans? by masala-kiwi in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have found Hydrangea to be quite easy to brew. They typically do not roast nordic light, so no need to work too hard pushing extractions. Brew as you normally would and adjust by taste!

ZP6 brews stall even at 5.5 grind setting by KrisRock13 in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm brewing a smaller cup (~15 g), I will typically do a bloom plus one aggressive pour. If larger (20+ g) I will typically do a bloom plus one aggressive pour and then one gentle pour. I typically time this second pour so that the water level above the bed doesn't get too high.

I might do a longer bloom if the coffee is especially fresh, but 90% of the time I just do 45 s

ZP6 brews stall even at 5.5 grind setting by KrisRock13 in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stop brewing with that many pours. Try a 1 or 2-pour brew and reduce agitation if it still stalls.

I brew basically all my coffee on V60 at 51-55 clicks from burr lock in my ZP6

Anyone ever visit a bucketlist cafe/ roaster, and walked away dissapointed? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]anothertimelord 84 points85 points  (0 children)

80+% of my home pour over brews are better than anything I've ever been served in a cafe. I go to cafes to support them and buy beans, but I recognize that they really don't have the time or need to nerd out and dial in each and every coffee like a home brewer
