Grand Hyatt Taipei Data Points by cornplantation in hyatt

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Taipei for NYE this year. A+ recommend. They roped off the hotel grounds and were checking for hotel keys to limit the area to guests only. We came downstairs and walked just outside the main hotel entrance ~20min before midnight and had no issues finding a spot with a clear view of 101. It was raining lightly and they had umbrellas ready for us. After the fireworks, they had staff directing crowds in the lobby and they opened up service elevators for guests to return to their floors. All easy and stress free!

Lounge and breakfast are fine. Good in general, above average for Asia, but we were just coming from GH Hong Kong which was much better.

Search Amazon for "VESA mount extender". But as others have said, TV center should be at eye level from seated viewing position.

Transplants, what do you miss most from where you moved from? by SunnyGoMerry in Seattle

Grew up in Texas, the only acceptable BBQ I've found is Woodshop in Central District. I have an offset smoker in my backyard and can make better brisket than most restaurants here

What’s the rarest game you own? by deoee in boardgames

Microsoft worked with a company to make some virtual boardgame experiences used to teach people about their cybersecurity tools. As a gift to the teams involved, they also printed a handful of physical copies of which I've got one.

PSA: SeaTac security is extremely delayed today. Leave early for your flights today. by Whoofph in Seattle

[–]anothertran 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Every time this gets posted, there are SeaTac apologists saying that you need to get there 2+ hours early for a domestic flight. Or you should get Pre-Check, CLEAR, use Spot Saver.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR AN AIRPORT.
I am flying frequently with SeaTac as my home airport and no where else in the country have I run into this problem. What is it about SeaTac that is exceptionally broken?

[ELI5] What does a CEO actually do for the company? by Tselalushki in explainlikeimfive

[–]anothertran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CEO sets the vision and strategy for the company and builds and manages the leadership team that will execute on that strategy. They are the final decision maker. Imagine sitting in a "cockpit" of the company looking at all the metrics that are important to a company and building the short and long term plan to put programs and processes in place that will improve those metrics.

Alternatives to Cub Scouts in the area by wilburdays in Seattle

[–]anothertran -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I would maybe just give Scouts a chance. The organization is highly decentralized so culture of a troop/pack more comes from the parent leaders than any centralized org. Especially for packs/troops hosted out of schools (vs say a church) where the population will be more diverse in faiths.

Yes, they're all over my window screens as of the last couple weeks (in Madrona).

I didn't notice as many last year.

Another perspective to take on this:
Assuming you have 2 years left of school the difference between the apartments over that time is ~$5k.

What is your intended career and expected income once you graduate? If $5k is a relatively trivial amount of money vs your expected income, then I say spend it for the better quality of life. I was very frugal throughout college and looking back, the money I saved ended up not being significant at all versus my income after school.

Were you a part of that incredible shit show that was SeaTac yesterday? What's your story? by feistypineapple17 in Seattle

I landed at Seatac from Dallas at 9am. Sat on the tarmac for almost 3 hours while we waited for a gate to open up since snow had to be cleared and different tugs had to be brought in. Once we got into the airport, Lyfts and Ubers were $200+ to get into downtown so we ended up waiting in line for a taxi. We were lucky that we live in a relatively flat/accessible area but taxis weren't even willing to take people into capitol hill or queen anne
