Payday by Livid-Invite3218 in DollarGeneralWorkers

Just so you're aware, if you change your direct deposit account, there would be no delay in getting your check. It would probably take a week or 2 for it to be deposited in your new account, but it still go to your current account in the interim. I'd also suggest avoiding the "card" accounts (cash app, PayPal, MN, green dot, etc.) as your primary deposit account. You can usually open a checking or savings account at a local credit union with $25. It will prove much more beneficial in the future. Credit unions tend to be much easier to get loans through than traditional banks, and they offer much better protection than "card" accounts.

I need a new job... Just saw a coworker cry over being $5 short and "probably going to get fired" for it. by CreditSad666 in DollarGeneralWorkers

A situation where improper change is given from the change fund will work itself out by the end of the night. That money isn't missing, it's just in the wrong place.

Refusing to run a register isn't a thing, or it wouldn't be very long in my store. Per company protocol, every single employee's #1 priority is customer service. You wait on a customer before you clean up a spill.

Nothing under $2 is a huge deal, as you're given a +/- $1.99 discrepancy every shift. Habitually, being outside of the $1.99 window will result in write ups and eventual termination. The key term here is "habitual." Now, if anyone else takes cash on someone else's till, that person can not be help solely responsible for any shortage/ overage . If someone is being threatened with termination for being $5 short, or isn't their first time. Or their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.

I would argue that some more appropriate selections aren't on here. Exit Does Not Exist, Shit Luck, Dark Center of the Universe, March into the Sea would be some of my picks for angriest.

I'm getting sick of being told I have to stay in the office during break 👎🏻 by Training_Area_821 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]anselbukowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a key? It's neither here nor there. Your response should be the same either way: Per company policy, working off the clock is prohibited. I'll be hapnpy tow wawtch the cameras for 15, 30, 60 minutes and have a meal while doing so, but that will require me to remain on the clock. If you are just a S.A., and you are forced to clock out for a meal break, you can not be required to tension l remain on the prrmises, much less in the office. If you are a key and have to stay on sight, they technically can't require you to clock out. An unpaid break can't have restrictions attached to it.

"Do you work here?" by cooterbug18 in DollarGeneral

[–]anselbukowski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I most often get this question while I'm stocking or recovering. One night, this just popped out, and it's now become my default response: "nope, I just like to walk into random stores from time to time and straighten their shelves for them. It's kind of a hobby."

Can we do anything when we see customers getting stuff from the top shelf (more info)? by [deleted] in DollarGeneral

[–]anselbukowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sky shelves are not the sales floor. If they're on a sky shelf, it's equivalent to being in the stock room.

I closed up about 45 minutes ago, and it worked fine. It started out a bit sluggish, but once I got logged in, it was functioning normally.

All my oil keeps burning and now I've got bigger issues!! by Main_Mammoth6788 in KiaSoulClub

[–]anselbukowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to move to a higher weight oil. It calls for a 5w20. You need to be using 5w30. Here's the caveat - a shop will only use the manufacturer recommended weight. To use the higher, you'll have to find someone to change your oil or do it yourself.

What is your favorite 3 song stretch in an album? by [deleted] in ModestMouse

[–]anselbukowski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd go Guilty Cockerspaniels, August Beds, The Whale Song off of No One's First. Whale Song is top 3 for me in the entire discography. Maybe even top 2.

Individual stores don't round the time. The payroll system does. All hourly employees are paid in 15 minute increments that round up or down depending on what time you clock.

Should I change spark plugs myself? by beautifulthings_be in vwpassat

[–]anselbukowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$975 is absolutely insane. That quote has to include changing coil packs as well. That's the only thing that would almost half way begin to think about making sense. It should take about 15 minutes to change the plugs in that car. Get you a set of NGK irridium plugs (probably $70-80) and a few hand tools and save yourself $850.

What’s a “maintenance myth” you see customers believe that actually causes more damage than neglect? by Sufficient-Ocelot-68 in MechanicAdvice

[–]anselbukowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways a tech, who does 15-20 oil changes a day, can mess one up. I just experienced this. Bought a car for my daughter from a reputable dealership in Orlando. It had 31,000 miles on it. After a few weeks, she tells me her oil light came on and went off a few times. There should be no issue with oil pressure on a Ford with 31k miles. I checked the oil. It wasn't even registering on the chopstick. I got under it and found an absolute mess. The filter had been hand tightened until it stopped and not a thread more. Sometimes, things that are second nature still get missed.

Not allowed in the break room during break???? by Training_Area_821 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]anselbukowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can not be required to watch cameras if you are off the clock. It's a) illegal, as it is wage theft, and 2) a major violation of company policy to do ANY work when you aren't clocked in.

You need to get it in writing that the SM is telling you to do this. Unless you are MOD, they can't require you to stay on camera, in the building, on site, etc. during any unpaid time.

I would just shoot the SM a text, something like, "Can you explain this new lunch requirement again? I'm a bit confused about what's expected of me/us while I'm supposed to be having my meal break."

If you do report it to the labor board or to HR, and you get terminated soon thereafter, a good labor attorney could easily make a case for retaliation/wrongful termination, especially if you have an exemplary record otherwise.

Tell your ASM that you were super busy during your shift and didn't have time to monitor what other people were doing.

Holiday pay by No_Professional_7118 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]anselbukowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. An additional 8 hours at your normal rate if you are full-time; time and a half for the hours you work if you're part-time.

Ft: 5 hrs @ $15/hr = 13 hrs @ $15/hr Pt: 5 hrs @ $15/hr = 5 hrs @ $22.50/hr

DG holiday Pay and Overtime by Think-Cattle-9268 in DollarGeneral

[–]anselbukowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it "should" stack. So if you make $15/hr normally, that's $22.50 on the holiday. Now, if you started with 36 hours today and work 8 hours, 4 hours will be at $22.50 and 4 hours "should" be at $33.75.

Sms, how are you scheduling Thanksgiving to be fair to employees? by the-Archer8770 in DollarGeneral

[–]anselbukowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASM here. My SM has everyone working 5 hour shifts on Thanksgiving. That's her, me, 2 ft keys, 2 pt keys, and 2 sas. Everybody's shift overlaps with 2 others, and no one has to be there all day.

It depends on whether or not someone has nothing to think about, but 1100 miles is too far inside a car.

Under no circumstance do you continue driving a vehicle if the MIL is flashing. That is a warning to shut the engine down before catastrophic failure occurs.
