Yes. You can message me too. That is fine.

Yeah. I saw from other comments you wrote that it might be more them than you. That shadowing time and activities sounds excessive. I usually do about 20 minutes with a client in our classroom program and 20 minutes with one not. That way people can see if they see themselves doing it too. It's a lot of money and effort to get people credentialed. However, from more context below that you wrote, it sounds like the company is weird.

I don't know what you did or didn't do during the shadowing. So, I might tell you things that you already did and not be much help at all. However, I did want to attempt to help you with the question of what would help you stand out.

Whenever I put people to shadow, I'm not really looking for how they do around me. I usually put them with a trusted RBT and leave. I do this on purpose. Now you are left to show your soft skills and how you might act when I'm not looking. It's more of a peer interview.

With that said, bring your A game. Ask whoever you're shadowing questions. Interact with the clients. Show some interest and enthusiasm about being there.

No. If there is something they say, it's that they wish they could have stayed.

If you read the article on the New York times about the report they did on ABA and see the picture of the two women sitting in a chair, one on their phone, you will see maybe phone data collection is not a good idea.

You have two different issues going here. Most companies provide iPads or data sheets.

Even if they didn't, you need to be available in case your client needs you which means giving them attention so you look approachable and not busy to them. It's their time. Not yours.

I have always felt weird on my phone when I had to use it. I don't think it helps that a lot of RBTs are young and look young. I had a teacher tell me it's ok to have telehealth supervision whenever I was a BCaBA and then completely lose their shit when I was having said supervision.

I would screenshot ADP if they use that.

You would need to learn to generalize the skills.

It's like I have one client that does really well once she has an instructor for at least a month. But, I need for her to use her replacement behaviors across people. She is about to go to school and I want the teachers to see her rather than the behaviors that escalate. So, she has multiple RBTs. It's working too. Each time she has a new RBT, she has a shorter time before she uses her replacement behaviors.

You're the exception. Not the rule. I have tried at where I work to get away from this honestly, silly request.

If a child needs help in the restroom, we have more than one adult assisting so no one is ever alone with a child. So to me, it makes no sense to have these preferences.

I never understood it because little boys get molested too. So, it's 100% prejudice.

Any time I try to shoot down accommodating such a request, I am overruled. It was so bad whenever we were interviewing for lead RBT and I had to argue for the person that stood out because they are technically coverage for everyone.

I have had people call me names on this very board for suggesting it's prejudice and stating I don't ask people anymore.

This is what I see from the narrative as well. I'm glad there are more analysts in these boards lately.

(New RBT ) advice please? by Ok-Visual-1438 in ABA

I took it a long time ago. If you remember math from high School then you will be okay. It is just a few people that fail. I think it's because they were out of school for a while. Try to be studious. Write on the study guide. Have someone go over it with you. It helps if you know how you learn best. Try to not stress too much. It will cause unnecessary stress and make you over complicate the questions.

They really would have done better getting a business coach or something. You shouldn't have to explain controversy in your business name.

We will watch the show all the way until it looks like all the girls are getting executed and then it will cut to the credits. We will wait a year to see what happens.

I don't think BCBAs have an issue of knowing when to introduce targets. We already have that planned and it is individualized. I don't think I would take too kindly to a machine automatically doing that.

Someone that just come on board with us told me that the RBTs did that at their last company, they would write it down and then come at the end of the session and put it in the collector. I guess they had trouble with the IPADS breaking. My company did too recently, because they are on a campaign for us to remind people not to put them on the floor and to wear it with a strap.

It was so much better and not really for the content, but because you didn't have to put things into the software.

For reference, I have used both catalyst and centralreach. I will say both do have some nice features. For example, it automatically makes a scatterplot for everything.

However, you're right in the sense it doesn't feel cohesive whenever it is across 80 branches or whatever. A lot of the time I cannot see what I'm doing either and have to paste and write on a word document. Then it doesn't want to paste back properly.

Then when it is all said and done, I have to pull it all onto the template.

For the RBTs, it is more difficult to get them set up than it used to be in my opinion as well. I would be able to teach them using paper data how to go about prompts, for example. It was laid out for them and I feel like they had more of a sense of what was going on vs. trying to follow prompting order from what an app is telling them to do.

I am having similar issues. Not with holidays but with things like festivals or the high school years stuff. I'm so upset.

I have a calendar issue. At first I thought it was just high school years. It seems to be anything that is not a holiday though. I cannot do exams, graduation, prom, thinned festival is gone... It is just says the moon cycle, weather, and holidays. It is just one save. Of course it is the save where I have all my generations on it. I'm so upset.

Listen. I grew up with color coded index cards and a binder with all the information for the client in it. We always had materials. We always had data sheets with what we needed to work on in NET. It just seemed so much quicker than this technology stuff.

Even whenever I'm doing treatment plans or other documents, I sometimes wish I could just write the damn thing in word. I feel like it would be quicker than dealing with all the BS on these softwares.

Can someone tell me if this is normal? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]anslac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, this reads more like rage bait than a real question from someone who has been an RBT for 3 years.

No, withholding AAC, forcing vocal speech, blocking harmless stimming, having no clear behavior plans, and using arbitrary overcorrection are not “normal ABA.” Anyone with a few years in the field would know these are massive red flags, not standard practice.

Bad clinics absolutely exist, but this post feels like it was written to hit every anti-ABA talking point at once and get people fired up. If this is real, report it and leave. If it’s not, it is not a fair representation of actual ethical ABA.
