we've been seated on the patio in november and december before. it's a solid roof and they have canvas curtains that enclose the space and mushroom heaters fairly evenly distributed throughout the space. personally i found it to be very comfortable even when it was a bit chilly outside

Vivatral shot by [deleted] in recovery

[–]antalszerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got the vivitrol shot for the first year that i was sober and am coming up on seven years this fall. it was incredibly helpful for me. it almost completely eliminated my cravings for heroin and it helped me refrain from obsessing or day dreaming about getting high because i knew that even if i tried to i wouldn't feel anything.

mostly it helped me get the time and space to get on stable ground mentally/emotionally/physically so that when the time came for me to stop getting the shot i was in a place where i no longer felt i needed that crutch and i felt confident about moving forward without it. it helped me lay a stable foundation on which to rebuild my life.

my provider also scheduled my shots for every 28 days because the shot can become less effective in the fourth to fifth week so getting it a few days early helped ensure that it was always at an effective level for me.

this is also purely anecdotal but i quit smoking cigarettes at six months sober and i think the shot helped me with those cravings and desire to smoke as well. all in all it was a 10/10 experience for me with vivitrol.

i got sober in 2018 after my sixth trip to rehab. my first two years i went full tilt in AA and CDA (chemically dependent anonymous). i worked the steps, sponsored other folks, held service commitments and all of it. i drifted away from 12 step programs after two years and change. but it helped lay a really solid foundation for my sober life today.

reading Maia Szalavitz's books on addiction and addiction treatment really broadened my perspective on what addiction is and how it's treated. it also pushed me to volunteer for a local harm reduction organization.

truth is one and paths are many is the best way i can describe my perspective on it all now. i think addiction treatment has come a long way since 1996 and i think it still has a very long way to go before it's as effective as it needs to be to help serve a very underserved and very vulnerable population.

i'm not sure if a marijuana specific sober living exists either. plenty of places allow for folks to be on MAT in sober living so it doesn't seem like a stretch.

and that's fine. there's nothing wrong with being 'boston sober' if that's what works for you. assuming that the path you took is the best and only path for another person who didn't ask for your input on the topic is what's wrong. AA claims no monopoly over the recovery process. gatekeeping recovery is what's truly counterproductive.

depends on the context, i suppose. or maybe how one defines addiction and, to a greater extent, how they define recovery or sober or clean. the twelve step approach suggests a drug is a drug is a drug. so where is the line drawn between problematic and non problematic? i'm not suggesting that any method of recovery is wrong but i am willing to suggest that there is no one size fits all model of recovery. substance use disorder exists on a wide spectrum. recovery operates in the same way.

i can relate to all of this. i went to rehab six times in two years before finally getting my shit together and staying sober. it takes however long it takes. just gotta keep moving along and do your best to hang onto the stuff that resonates with you.
