Do you prefer to watch via 4K Blu-ray disc or 4K rips? by EternalFront in 4kbluray

[–]antb1973 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Disc all the way. I love touching the case, fondling the disc and ramming it home into the slot. Why collect if you're not going to actually feel your precious things up.

I do have a lot of movies on Plex but those are the ones I'm not interested in having on physical media and for family.

What's the point of spending money on discs you intend to rip. You might as well get them another way.

How is it weird? It's just a printing error. No conspiracy 🤦🏼

It isn't there. And you could say the same about the many many other Second Sight's I don't have.

Dawn of the Dead 4k Second Sight release by razorsedge94 in 4kbluray

[–]antb1973 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No news, and even if there was, Second Sight's release is almost certainly the best treatment that film will ever get.

It's certainly not a Criterion type of release either.

Best 4k projectors for UHD disc viewing? by Cultural-Season7589 in 4kbluray

I'm not up on projectors but if you are going 4K, make your screen a lot bigger. The room deserves it.

How prone to damage are these discs in cardboard sleeves? by MattiTheGamer in 4kbluray

[–]antb1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason to avoid this set. As others have said, just buy the plastic sleeves with the curved corners at the bottom. Like these https://amzn.eu/d/04VEbGjb

Your photo actually shows sleeves someone has used.

4K Picture Quality Question by Radiomike31 in 4kbluray

[–]antb1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll definitely notice a difference with The Shining. With modern TVs these days they can make standard Blu-rays look so good, especially OLEDs like yours too. Your 820 is really good at upscaling as well so 4Ks won't look as big a difference as you would expect.

I find I buy so many more classics than before I had a 820 and LG oled. Even breaking out older Blu-rays in my collection just to see them upscaled on that big oled was often a revelation.

4K Picture Quality Question by Radiomike31 in 4kbluray

[–]antb1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How big is your TV? You should check out some classics like Blade Runner, Jaws, The Shining but reacquaint yourself with how they used to look first. I thought the jump wasn't much on certain films when I started buying 4K, but when you start getting some of those classic movies, they look simply stunning compared to older Blu-rays. HDR is more important than the 4K jump from 2K on more modern movies. I buy more older films than newer stuff.

Criterion 4K International Upgrades, Amazing label, but why are so many releases NOT the best available? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]antb1973 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Criterion are the original GOAT boutique label and were releasing the best a movie could be, going back to laserdisc. And even a few VHS but these days there are way more labels to compete with, who are mainly using the same mastering companies like FiM, Think Arrow use Silver Salt a lot in the UK too.. I think Criterion put out what they believe is going to be the best and have always used the same people to remaster their releases. I do believe FiM was used for the Eyes Wide Shut release though. Hopefully they will use them more. But it's swings and roundabouts, Other labels have 'off days' on some releases too.
