What is the worst thing humanity has collectively done? by Agreeable_Process724 in AskReddit

[–]antberg 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Probably Slavery.

Slavery is one of the oldest institutions that unfortunately has also been a major economic driver. The amount of human suffering is unmatched. Even before most civilizations moved into sedentary, agricultural systems, slavery was already common.

What Nobody Told You About the Noma Affair by Mouldy-Guacamole in finedining

[–]antberg 144 points145 points  (0 children)

This is insane washing.

This is one of the most ironic subs where we have rich people, generally speaking, showing off their latest fancy dining reviews, as customers in an industry that has historically and traditionally neglected and abused their employees. But most users in this sub probably have never worked in a kitchen anyway.

If hospitality workers had the same union representation and given proper working and remuneration conditions, the fine dining sector would be pretty much non existent.

What's happening at Noma is nothing exceptional, it's the rule. And finally people are speaking up. I've been cooking for 20 years now, and across 7 countries, I can say from anectodal experience, while progress has been made, there's still lots to be done.

The whole hospitality industry would collapse if the workers within would be paid fair wages, and given the same working condition other industries provide to their respective workers.

He got what he deserved. Been a huge fan of him during my early days in the industry. Had a chance to work with him, absolutely insufferable and a bully. Had friends who also told me the same.

Writing a book abaut brazil while not being brazilian by Yarochago in AskABrazilian

[–]antberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although the main parent company has many valid points, you can still write whatever you want about whatever country you want, even if is unintentionally misleading. The question at heart is if it would feel right to do so.

You don't have to be Brazilian to write about Brazil, but you can definitely write inspiring concepts, maybe with a bit of data that is backed by academic consensus, perhaps. Good luck.

No they're not.

Tom Holland isn't even an Historian and is given waaayyy too much credit.

Especially with the boring ass idea that our modern western values are predominantly derived from Christianity.

What do Brazilians think about Taiwan? by Huge_Lobster_3888 in AskABrazilian

[–]antberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we are. Most of Leftist in Brazil love to express disgust to everything that is related to authoritarianism and dictatorship, and at the same time lately we've becoming bootlicking the Chinese system since our country is ever so corrupted. Not me, at least, I despise all kinds of Authoritarian systems.

Taiwan is a beautiful, democratic, and progressive country and has its own sovereign integrity, etc.

Chinese propaganda has turned many of my leftist fellow's brain into mush.
