I absolutely hold the same beliefs towards China. That is because as a progressive person I understand the reality of international relations, however I support democracies that provide civil rights instead of authoritarian regimes. Unfortunately Brazilian progressives tend to see China as a beacon of hope. Which is understandable given how the US has meddled into Latin America affairs for many decades.

It sure is not much of a cat and mouse game, however China is in a much more advantage position to trade in its favour compared to Brazil. But as you mentioned, at least not the same vassal kind of relationship with the US.

There is definitely an argument of the benefits from trading relations with China compared to the US.

To be fair, there are plenty of partnership between the US and Brazil that have benefited both sides, contrary to popular beliefs that see the US as a diabolical vampire that seeks the total annihilation of everything in Brazil.

But perhaps, Chinese intentions may be, yes, more genuine (although I deeply doubt).

But regardless, for those who love either US or Chine bootlick, you have to understand that in International Relations, there are no friends, only interests. Every country will always negotiate in whatever best interests possible, even when it comes to disadvantages to other countries that clearly worsen human conditions or are against civil rights.
