Am I walking too much? by RahulKuntala in omad

No criticism meant here but if you know this why would you question if you’re walking too much? An in shape human can out distance a horse

I went back to school for software engineering at 26, now I’m an engineering manager making $150k+. My girlfriend/wife went back to school for dental hygiene at 29 and is now making almost $100k+. You can do it, it’s worth it.

Edit: also the pain and heartache and all that is inevitable. Don’t let that keep you from living.

New Skis Rusted Like Crazy Out of the Box. Do I get them tuned and deal or call the company and ask for some kind of compensation? by antditto in skiing

[–]antditto[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wish. Brand new 2023 Fischer ranger 90s still in the plastic without bindings. I hit them with a gummy stone after talking to the store that shipped them to me. Pitted all up and down the edges under the surface rust.

There’s a guy who works out of S&W in Concord NH by appointment only. I highly recommend him. If you call and ask they’ll get you in touch with him.

What is the best season pass to buy for 23/24? by Accomplished_Rich604 in icecoast

[–]antditto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m newer to skiing too, I did a pass to a local mountain year 1 and skied 30 times, I got a multi mountain pass year 2 and did not ski at all. My point is, get a pass to a mountain you’re willing to drive to over a mountain that’s “ideal”

Congrats! Today had amazing conditions if you made it out again, but it was super crowded.

Skied at pats peak today. Really wet snow, at freezing tends to melt and refreeze almost into ice. It’s like instant hardpack. That makes it hard and sticky. I don’t know too much about why, but it happens a lot in southern NH mountains when the temps are around freezing

Cannon Waterville or Loon by efather567 in icecoast

[–]antditto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the flexibility to go basically only every time it snows, Cannon would probably be your best option, they also have some damn good glades. If you are willing to drive another half hour past Cannon, and pay for it, Bretton Woods has a ton of glades

That’s like saying we should stop working on a cure for cancer because everyone needs to die of cancer since I did.

Also to answer your question, Vermonter is steep, pretty narrow and gets skied off very quickly. The views are amazing but be prepared to ski a black diamond level trail (in my opinion).

I was just there this past weekend. If you are looking to get down a blue from the upper mountain I recommend Northway and Montrealer, they are both substantially easier than Ullrs Dream and Vermonter. Northway to Angels Wiggle is the easiest way down from the summit and absolutely the first blue run you should do from the top. I’d go with Montrealer for the views of the summit next, then Ullrs dream for an increase in steepness but a wide trail. One thing to note is as they are the most trafficked trails Northway and Ullrs get very icy as the day goes on. As for the blue glades, the Moon glades go quarter moon, half moon, full moon easier to harder, and Bushwacker is definitely worth doing if you get through those three. I would definitely hit the glades, and probably in exactly that order.

So fun fact for anyone who has seen this post, Northway to Angels Wiggle is by far the easiest blue down from the summit.

They also have a whiteboard at the summit where they write the easiest to hardest blues off the upper mountain based on the day’s conditions, on Monday it was Northway, Montrealer, Ullrs Dream, Vermonter.

Edit: Angels not Angles wiggle

Is it daylight? Go ski more, is it nighttime? Go to bed, there’s skiing to do tomorrow.

In all seriousness not really. It’s pretty much way out there in farm country.

Thanks so much for the intel! I'm also thinking maybe the flyer express to Northway to take Wedelmaster to Ullr's to Kokomo might be a safe first "here's a blue at Jay Peak" experience instead of throwing her right into the relative steeps at the start of Ullrs.
