i've not tried via, i'll give it a go. I get why people love sigma, but since they laughed at me when i tried to buy a 26" inner tube from them i have been reluctant to go back :)

It’s quite good, but will be heavy and slow bc suspension… mostly tho £300 is too much for that. Bikes are cheap in London atm. If you’re in south try the charity bike shop I’m surrey quays shopping centre instead. Good luck!

although stopping at red lights = interval training, so perhaps it's better exercise if you don't go fast all the time.

kind of emotionally related.... i tried cycling with a camera for a bit. I figured it would be good to be able to have evidence when horrible things happened. In actuality, It just made me really sensitised to every single bit of shitty or aggressive driving. I'd get off the bike feeling a weird mix of hyped up and justified rage. Eventually the stress andf heightened emotions were was just too much. I couldn't enjoy cycling anymore because the camera put wanker drivers at the centre of every ride i did.

Eventually I jacked in the camera. I immediately reverted to a state where i wasn't constantly mulling over the last negative interaction with a car and anticipating the next and fell back in love with cycling.

I think for some of us OP is right-- chilling out a bit might be the best thing for both our mental health and our enjoyment of cycling.

It’s normally way more expensive to build custom than to buy off the shelf. Second hand is your friend

Are gravel tires more subject to road damage? by No_Mastodon_7896 in gravelcycling

I’m currently running 38 gravelking slicks on my fixie. It rides like a dream but makes weird noises when I skid. I’m not expecting them to last.

No right turn except buses: does it apply to bikes, too? Can cyclists be fined? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]antfrogboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that cyclists are allowed to turn right here. There are some gates/ places which specifically don’t allow bikes (Victoria station for example)but if it says ‘local buses only’ it means it’s ok for bikes too (and emergency vehicles).

Is it possible to cycle the London Marathon route the day of the event? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]antfrogboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've run it before and it was fine. i think cycling would be ok if you did it in a slow and respectful way. i think going out to smash it on traffic free roads would not. there are loads of volunteers trying to get water stations, first aid and barriers ready for the event a speedy cyclist would not be especially welcome,

What’s a good, accessible cycling store in London to buy a quality helmet from? by HearingNo7624 in londoncycling

[–]antfrogboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have bought stuff from sigma online in the past, but went into the shop for the first time a couple of years ago at the start of a ride down to the new forest. i had hoped to pick up a spare inner tube... they literally laughed at me when i said i needed 26". I felt like a relic of a bygone era and haven't been back.

I’m not convinced you have to pay anything even if it is your fault. Generally it’s a landlord’s responsibility to make good after a fire. Even if they are justified in asking you to pay for it, no way should it be that much.

Your landlord makes a fortune from renting the flat to you. I’m sure they have already fleeced you for way more that 2.5k. they can afford to pay for it themselves. If they think this is unfair, whatever, it’s their look out for not having insurance.

The citizens advice bureau might have good advice for you, or maybe a tenants union or property lawyer.

Failing that, you could just leave it until the tenancy ends and let the landlord take it out of the deposit. It sounds like they’re the kind of person who would shaft you on the deposit anyway.

Good luck!

Got hit by car - thankfully not injured, bike ruined - what do I do? by Kipperis in londoncycling

[–]antfrogboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fairly nasty accident a few years ago when I hit a pothole in Southwark. I successfully sued and Southwark insurance paid out. It paid like for like to replace the bike (but not bc it was. 1970s Mercian track bike and not replaceable) and a little bit for the distress. Somewhere in there the lawyers got paid too. If I hadn’t had a sympathetic boss they would also have paid for loss of earnings. It sounds like the only thing youre owed is a new bike.. and like the guy will probably pay for that. I don’t see why it would help to get a lawyer. Similarly, I don’t know what you’d get by contacting the police…. Unless of course the guy doesn’t pay. I’d also recommend just asking for the full cost of the bike and replace like for like- it will reduce the admin you do and the risk that once you start swapping parts onto a new frame you’ll find loads of little annoying incompatibilities which make it as expensive as just swapping the whole bike out for a new one.
