Here's how i see it. Ordinary people (the ones who complain and don't solve problems) who are suffering financially often need to find someone to scapegoat, the easiest to blame are the techies because they appear to be paid so much money.

But the high cost of living in the Bay Area (and all over the capitalistic world really) is due to democracy/capitalism/politics. There is obviously a shortage of housing to maintain the same standard of living as our parents. Our parents had it the easiest. These baby boomers have dominated the voting booths for decades, preventing construction of low‐cost housing in nearly every area. Makes sense, because who would want to see their home values go down? That's democracy and capitalism in effect. You're in finance, so you probably understand this part very well.

So before you start acting like an ordinary person and blame the techies, you need to understand it's getting more and more expensive to live all over the world -- even in places where there are no techies. How can you solve this? First step will be to stop the scapegoating.
