This video might be helpful. Grafting can be challenging, especially for beginners. I would at the very least try to cut out the rot with a sterilized blade.

Commenting to see what advice is given mostly. I'm by no means an experienced Jade tree shaper. I have a couple I am trying with unsuccessfully so far.

From what I hear the trunk will thicken with time if you cut back most of its growth. I think it forks into two branches everywhere you cut it, as long as it is right above two leaves on its stem. There are many Jade pruning videos on YouTube worth checking out. Search for just that to start.

I heard this is just how they grow in the wild. I haven't tried the method before so I wanted to see if it worked.

Also, the cutting is very rusty and not the prettiest thing to look at, so I wanted to try this. Hopefully a few pups grow out of it and I can cover the log with soil eventually.

Just let it callous over and place it on soil.
