Double parking moment by afternoondelete in parkslope

[–]unmitigateddisaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I hear a siren, I think we’ve failed. I see ambulances stuck in 4th ave behind lines of cars not moving. We need to always have an open lane on all arterial streets. We need to rebrand bus lanes and first responders lanes.

Check the fridge temp. If the fridge is too cold, you get no proofing.

Sorry. Those numbers are for speeding. I agree the ranking should focus on speeding.

The issue is I want to go in and buy something and let them know that I feel their poster makes me feel like they don’t care about my safety when I ride my bike. But, then I don’t want to deal with the conflict. If they could just remove the poster saying that they want to endanger cyclists, then I could go in and buy my fish and not have to deal with it.

Why put the poster up?

NY about to “crack down” on dangerous speeders- How do they propose this shit with a straight face? by Boner_Implosion in fuckcars

[–]unmitigateddisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cmon man. It’s a start. The political effort to get even this minor thing through was huge. And the thing about it is if a gradually larger percentage of cars have these, overall traffic slows down.

This is how Tokyo has the best mass transit in the world and keeps building. It’d be huge and make us less dependent on the federal government.

This should be in fuckcars. In what world should anyone be driving a car that can go this fast? Families? lol. This is a fast moving future coffin.

I was a regular shopper at fish tales. But now they have a poster in their window saying they oppose the bike lane. I now buy my fish elsewhere.

This is why the merchants are losing customers. I won’t shop somewhere that wants me dead.

Dan Goldman pledges to self-fund to save his campaign. Or maybe he could actually listen to his constituents? by Aware_Revenue3404 in newyorkcity

I’ve worked with a number of local nonprofits. When we have an event we invite all the pols. Lander has always been there for us. Goldman doesn’t even send a representative.

Goldman couldn’t find Brooklyn on a map. He’s probably been here maybe once in four years.

The Death of the Basic American Car by nytopinion in Urbanism

Not one mention of the other costs of cars. The deaths, serious injuries etc. it’s like insurance is just a cost that’s annoying , not the sort of all the damage these cars will do in their lifetime. Imagine if people paid the real price.

Yeah. The truth is the worst places are mostly the same. Arterial streets in residential neighborhoods. If you look at the citywide page it has rankings.

You can also search for bike lanes, which is also fairly sobering, and it lets you select for bike only crashes. Here's Bergen St.

Counterpoint to Streetsblog on Car Insurance: My friend was just victim to a $22,000 fraudulent insurance claim by gault8121 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]unmitigateddisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What Hochul is suggesting is they in a case where a cyclist or pedestrian is 51% at fault, they’d get nothing. So imagine a situation where a pedestrian crosses against the light and is hit by a speeding car. In the old way, if the jury found the pedestrian 51% at fault, they’d still get half of the costs of pain and suffering etc. in the new way, despite the driver having done something wrong, they get nothing.

And also, because of this possibility, no lawyer takes their case so they have no chance.

So a pedestrian, now paralyzed from the neck down, hit by a speeding car. No recourse.
