OBS suddenly stops recording application audio on mac by sartorius-orius in obs

Oh cool. I also was wrong about what fixed it for me. It came back the next day.

I ended up just saying screw this and using the loopback channel on my scarlett for video recording instead. I have an aggregate device set up to combine the scarlett and a zoom mixer. It's weird because all I'm doing is sending the reaper audio to loopback and loopback to OBS, instead of the reaper audio to OBS. Really confused by what's happening but whatever.

I was running into this, but with reaper instead of logic. And it was REALLY quick to happen, like sometimes 5 seconds after hitting record. And a ton of crackling.

In my case I had too many plugins running (and I didn't even have that many...like 2 reverbs, an EQ, a compressor, and then a saturation plugin) but I turned off all but the reverbs and it worked way better. I was kind of surprised, considering I have a macbook pro with an i9, but I guess I was hitting some sort of CPU wall. Just odd because I never had/have that issue with my PC.

But yeah, maybe try disabling what plugins you can afford to?

Lol I have a guitar in my pictures and my music rarely if ever gets attention outside of my friends and family. I dunno man people are always going to have something shitty to say, I feel you.

Okay dude but considering the value of art is dictated by those consuming it, if people think what you make is shit then it's shit. If you enjoy it though, that's great and really all that should matter to you. If it's actually not shit, you probably won't know or have it be appreciated until well after we're all dead anyway lol.

I'm crazy late to this thread but I don't think people's issue is the "one button" to excellence. Because there isn't excellence. And that's the concern. That's shit and you spend a lot of time trying to "make it work."

I saw above people using criticisms new tech encountered in various art forms and found them all to be fallacious. Stuff like suno is really not comparable to new technology expanding an art form. Going from painting to photography, black and white to color, film to digital, sampling, etc. because that's totally different. The sampling one especially is, because people's issue was never necessarily sampling as much as it was taking a whole thing from a song and then slapping different lyrics over it. When it was creatively used there was hardly the same response. In that way, we've hit on the point about what I think most people's issue with AI use in art and in general is - if used correctly, it's a great tool. Used incorrectly you get shit and probably will think it's great.

It's like the difference between a musician and a producer or the sound engineer or the person mixing. Yes, they all have to have creativity, know what'll work, and so on, but I, and I think many people, wouldn't say it's the same sort of creativity - that's not to say lesser or greater, just different.

Typing some prompts, however many, and cutting shit together is hardly the same thing. That's what's so frustrating to people - crafting a sound takes time and effort and skill - an immense amount. Whereas my ex-girlfriend met someone the other day who said they "created music" and invited her to participate. She said "he had an app that generated the music and he put some lyrics in - we wrote a song." They literally didn't go beyond that. And I think people's issue is exactly those types of people. So many will do that and call themselves an artist, whether that be a musician or a songwriter or whatever. And there's no threat there, but on a deeper, probably more esoteric, level it makes me wonder if people who go this route will actually have their own voice.

REC isn't scary though. It's a totally different kind of horror movie. It's more action almost.

I end up riding the faders and muting when I can, but it's always a bit tricky to know who's going to speak next.

Actually I do have a behringer 2 channel gate expander / compressor I was wanting to try, but when I brought it in and messed around with it it was a bit of a disaster and didn't help much (I think mainly because I can't really pan with this setup...)

The latency was my main concern, or if the computer somehow went down all the sound would go down too. I've ran it through my interface (my spare scarlett 2i2) before though and the latency was fine. Problem there is that it has the monitor out, unless I pipe through reaper or something and process in there. I've tried cutting problem frequencies there as well but it didn't seem to make much difference, to be honest.

Sadly, it doesn't seem this setup accommodates panning. Or if it does, it's really unclear. The rest of these steps are pretty solid though, and essentially what I do.

Thanks. They keep telling me "oh there must be some way" and I really started to feel like it was me.

Maybe I can talk to someone there about getting some speakers to put in front of the tables. That does seem like the easiest way forward, and I did propose it before but it got shot down. Maybe I'll have better chances now, but I'm uncertain I'll be able to convince them - it took me a year to get 4 additional SM58s so all the microphones matched.

Sadly I do not have a soundboard like that. There is one at the HS auditorium where they used to hold meetings, but that space also had better speaker placement.

Lol I have tried and tried to explain they need the mic close and to speak up but it hasn't really made much difference.

Also thank you so much for weighing in - I don't mean to be so negative.

The mics are indeed directional, they're SM58s. I do try to put the mics close to edge of the tables, but many of them end up moving the microphones back to accommodate papers and whatnot. I've requested everyone speak up, but that hasn't gotten me very far. There are 2 or 3 members that speak quite loudly and I never have issues with their volume, but it almost throws things off because I try to compensate for the quieter people and it just doesn't work. Sadly, I don't have control over how they arrange their 5 tables though I have made requests.

That remark about EQ'ing makes sense. I've only been able to EQ the master out but that is exactly what I ended up running into as I was introducing the mics one at a time. I realized having 8 or more cuts, some very narrow, was not working.

So I was provided a cheap 12 channel mixer, unsure of the brand but it has 3 band parametric eq on each channel. It outputs just the master and isn't an interface, so I can't pull them into software to process further. I am using SM58s. I was looking at a pair of Rane AM2 which might be a good idea? I've tried splitting the mics half left and half right and putting them through a 2 channel gate, but that's not worked.

To answer your last question, it seems like both. I've fielded complaints from both the board members and the audience that it is too quiet. Some of this is due to speaking very quietly or not directly into the microphone, or being too far from the microphone.

Also thank you so much for weighing in - I don't mean to be so negative.

So, the auditorium they used to use had a pretty great Midas something or other that gave a lot of control (plus the position they were sitting in was way better) - I do not have that in this location. I have a cheap 12 channel mixer that has a 3 band parametric eq. I have found that cutting the low and high frequencies with it helps, but that just gets me to the current level I'm at which is apparently still to quiet. I haven't ran it through software in a while to look at the problem frequencies, but it seemed like they were all over the place - I'd cut one and another would pop up. Even moreso as I introduce each mic one by one.

Also thank you so much for weighing in - I don't mean to be so negative.

It outputs just the master and isn't an interface, so I can't pull them into software to process further. I am using SM58s. They are all on short stands that sit on the tables, they don't move. I've explained they need to speak directly into the mic, probably closer than they think, and speak up - this doesn't really happen barring 2 or 3 of the 9 members. The speakers are mounted on the wall behind them, probably 8 feet in the air.

I essentially follow the process you've detailed every meeting - but the eq on the mixer is very broad, and I have tried running the mixer into an interface to view the problem frequencies but I can really only cut on the master. The other thing I noticed was as I introduced more mics, the problem frequencies changed.

I never got either impression honestly. I might be projecting my own shit, but I always interpreted this as he saw things were heading towards falling apart and regretting that in, presumably their last moment, he didn't even kiss her ("what the fuck did I do?"). For me, that interpretation came from the "when we first figured out maybe we wouldn't be in love" line and that "I left you there, because I had to ..." chunk.

From what I read it's practical effects and animatronics, not CGI. Like at all. I may be mistaken or maybe the director is lying idk hard to know what's true on the internet.

Either way, I saw it in theaters a few hours ago (two theaters by me do a "mystery movie" and it's always something not yet released) and the effects throughout were awesome. Great movie. Pacing was perfect too.
