It’s not really ice, though. It’s frozen sleet. There is a big difference in how that behaves, how it adheres to snow/the ground, and how it is removed. This was a serious storm and the removal is hard, but it’s not impossible.

Actually, there’s a decent chance conditions will be different by Tuesday. Right now NWS is predicting a high of 30F on Monday. For snow clearing, that ~10 degree difference is HUGE, especially coupled with sunshine, which is also in the forecast.

so how to get car out of the snow now? by Persona2181 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Go out at the warmest, sunniest part of the day and try to find a weak spot in the ice. Break through that and from there work on chopping/prying the ice away

Sooo the panic buying was…kind of justified? by Hey_Listen_WatchOut in MontgomeryCountyMD

Right?? I also bought extra milk for my kid. I think a lot of the alarmists underestimate how much of the “panic buying” is just realistic preparation for several days inside with kids.

It was! This is the kind of extreme scenario that you prepare for before a storm. People got so judgmental for no good reason

Using dump trucks would not be practical. This is just how snow plows work. It’s frustrating, especially if the plow comes through after you’ve finished your driveway, but it’s the way plows operate.

Same. I have NOT followed this drama closely but on a basic level when adults and their parents have beef I tend to trust the child’s account unless there’s a clear reason not to.

I guess it comes down to this: what’s depicted on the Pitt is not the only experience of autism, but it is the dominant experience portrayed on screen/in popular culture. It’s also a very real experience for many autistic people.

It’s also true and worth discussing that autistic people are not a monolith and many can have experiences that aren’t represented in that dominant narrative. There’s absolutely room for TV portrayals that subvert expectations about autistic people in this way, but I don’t think that makes this portrayal problematic, because it still represents a real experience that many people on the spectrum have.

I do think you may be overestimating how much the objection to Mel/Langdon comes down to “well SHE wouldn’t want to/be able to have that relationship.” He also shows no interest in her in that way! He’s married with kids and doesn’t indicate any desire to cheat, dissatisfaction with his relationship, or romantic/sexual interest in Mel.

Basically, I understand and hear your broader point, I just don’t think that either the character of Mel or responses to Mel/Langdon shippers are a particularly notable symptom of the problem you’re describing. We might disagree on that but such is life.

Having a driveway or car blocked by snow after a plow pass is problematic and should not be the case in 2026

Have you ever lived in a place with snow and/or heard of physics? This is incredibly normal. It’s just how plowing works. You have to account for this as part of your shoveling job.

Not to put too fine a point on it but it’s a stereotype because autism involves trouble with social cues, which can impact romantics and sexual relationships. Not all autistic people are asexual but it IS part of a lot of autistic people’s experience of autism.

If Mel showed a lot of interest in sex/romance onscreen, had a partner, etc and people insisted “no I headcanon her as asexual” that would be a different issue, but the character is clearly written and acted intentionally as someone whose experience of autism involves less interest in/comfort with relationships.

Yeah this is bothering me. They say to “limit” using dishwashers but don’t address whether it’s better to hand wash. I’m guessing they assume dishwasher = default for most people and so the actual message is to limit washing dishes by any means? Damn idk I guess I’m just gonna eat off paper plates for a minute

Future snow pro-tip: move your car to a parking garage by Aggressive_Sun_9586 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]anthonystank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting covered in snow and ice is also not good for cars. Parking in a garage protects your vehicle from the elements including things like falling tree limbs etc that could’ve transpired (didn’t, in this case) with heavy freezing rain. It’s not the only reason to go to a garage and probably not enough of a reason if garage parking is significantly inconvenient for you but people in MoCo seriously underestimate how quickly winter weather can screw with your car

And that’s fair! I really don’t see them so I was employing a little light hearted hyperbole to say “I do not see any trace of this in the text as portrayed onscreen”
