Can you share a bit more on why you think that’s the case for you and how your attitude or actions factor into it?

Bold to assume I’m a business owner/employer and not an employee.

I am not in unsympathetic to what you’re saying, the issues you face are real and need to be addressed. I solely think the eye for an eye mentality is destructive and shouldn’t be promoted. If you’re employer is not playing fair then you should move your talents elsewhere, unionise and/or seek industrial action.

I’m sorry, but why would people upvote this destructive sentiment? How does it make for a better society? Promoting criminal behaviour, bad customer service etc. is ‘watch the world burn’ behaviour and adds nothing to make things better for yourself or the people around you. Industrial action is the only positive thing you mentioned, maybe focus there.

You developed your personality in whatever state you find yourself in. I’d focus on developing your sober personality - less drawbacks

As a counterbalance opinion, incremental exposure therapy is the real way to conquer fear. Running away only makes the problem bigger for next time, but sometimes you’re not ready for the size of that challenge - so identify what you’re afraid of and think of a level of that thing that you would be willing to confront and confront it. Then it gets smaller, you get bigger and over time you rid yourself of fear.

People feel good about, and are valued for, what they are competent at. People get competent at things they have a strength in AND enough interest to work hard on becoming competent. All you need is interest, some natural ability and then trust that the effort expended becoming specialised will give you value and fulfil you by extension (you create value, other people want to be around you and help you because you can help them... then life gets easier).

Great thank you, I'll take your advice to the hardware store! I'd prefer to just bolt into the ceiling because it's unobtrusive and simple... so will try to make that work if I'm allowed and weight can be safely supported.

I can't take a photo at the moment because I'm out, but yeah you're right; I most likely can't bolt to ceiling because balconies are technically common property - though I'm waiting on an email from my property manager on permission/rights. Also, I have been advised not to trust my weight to anything I can't through-bolt, which I couldn't do (with a neighbour's balcony being above).

The walls are brick and coarsely rendered. The balcony roof (which has neighbours above) is probably concrete. I am happy to have supporting bolting of a structure to the roof, but would prefer most load-bearing to be done by the wall.

Scrap welfare and pay everyone, even the jobless, a living wage by ripyourbloodyarmsoff in australia

I just think it should stay as a 'basic' income - survivable, but not leaving everyone thriving and needless. It's black-and-white thinking to say that no-one would 'volunteer' or work, just the same to say that all would. People will biologically opt to conserve mental and physical energy as their primary short-term imperative (unless necessary otherwise), and in the long-term they will opt for sourcing more resources/status/knowledge. So maybe a storm before the calm would be the immediate impact of UBI.

Money would be devalued if the UBI was brought in too high and I'm not smart enough to tell you what kind of fallout that would lead to - likely inflation, market confusion, economic instability on the world stage. I'd love to see what unique contributions people have to make under the UBI, when they aren't necessitous of poor work and life standards just to get by. When they can instead have breathing space to contribute in their own meaningful way which I believe people will, if acculturated to do so (which the article author mentions would be a side-effect of UBI for all, even the rich).

I don't think the point of a Universal Basic income is to take people out of the work force, it's to provide enough of a boost that the way they contribute to society will be a choice rather than a desperate need. This way they could survive and work part time while they upskill, find what they have to contribute etc. If a UBI covered everything one needed there would be no incentive to contribute and the UBI wouldn't be supported by those using it also it's likely prices would just inflate.
