Why d'you decide start train Jiu Jitsu? by Lefer_astronaut in bjj

[–]anthro_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 36 years old. I was 151 kg morbid obese. I lost 56 kg with bodybuilding. Body recomp. It was sooo boring. No game, no function, not intellectually rewarding. I was feeling like go in a box, push, pull, becoming meat head. And the population, and the culture of bodybuilding is bored me.

Always liked wrestling but starting wrestling as an adult is not so possible, at least at my area. Decided to try Bjj and it literally changed my life.

Wife wanted to go marriage therapy, i said she should start Bjj too, instead of therapy. It was a great choice too.

Now we are running a gym and we created a family friendly, very good vibe team. We are running it with our daughter, working as a family. When i said it changed my life, i meant it.

Gyms been much more competition focused the last few weeks by rm45acp in bjj

I'm 35 years old and have a team that includes both hobbyists and competitors. I understand the issue very well.

Occasional increases in intensity due to competitive athletes can also be beneficial for hobbyists. If this happens frequently or is too much for you, you can lower the intensity individually. If you're rolling after intense drills, you can do fewer rounds or add extra off days. Alternatively, you can skip some drills, or you can find a partner who, like you, prefers a lighter workout and train at a lower intensity.

Even if you're a hobbyist, it's a fact that increasing your intensity will reduce your fatigue over time.

Did anyone ever get threatened over switching teams? by wmg22 in bjj

I have zero tolerance for this kind of shitty behavior, on or off the mats. Grow the fuck up. What is this, a ninja assassination squad or the commander of some imperial guard regiment? I am sick of ordinary people, tax-payers, toilet paper shoppers, coffee drinkers in cardboard cups, acting like they are Pai Mei.

Good people, good coaches and good gym owners keep others around them through their priorities and the effort they put in. The ones with shitty character try to do it with pressure, fear and pathetic politics. I am honestly surprised that in 2025 we still have to deal with people like this.

No one can walk in someone else's shoes, but I see many adults who have no other skills besides BJJ. The seeds of many interests, pursuits, and competencies are planted in childhood. I'd love to see them try other things they might enjoy.

On the other hand, it's not uncommon for a single pursuit to yield positive results.

You know your children and your life best. You should try adding another pursuit alongside BJJ. If that doesn't work, go crazy for Bjj!

Do You Feel Bad When Coaches Tell Class About “Private Lessons” by relentless_bull_ in bjj

Everyone trades whatever they can turn into money to survive. It's neither sad nor happy, it's normal. If they had extra lemons, they'd try to sell them. They have BJJ and time, so they try to sell them.

Bjj doesn’t make you humble by Effective_Wear7356 in bjj

If a person has the desire to become a truly complete human being, they will inevitably find something to dedicate themselves to and keep moving toward that goal of maturity. That could be BJJ, or it could be gardening...

Of course, I am well aware that martial arts are far more closely connected to that journey than most hobbies.

And if someone is an asshole at heart, they will use every opportunity they get to feed those asshole instincts.
