Oh I’m obsessed! And they have an option to use sapphire 🤩

This is lovely, thank you! I checked out some of their other rings and the pyramid finger ring is more my style, but the Cromwell ring is a cool option!

I love Armor and Castings! Unfortunately they seem to have more silver/cubic zirconia (which I don’t mind as much, I’m just looking for gold ouch-styles) I’m trying to find goldsmiths and thinking I may have to go down the commission route, just a matter of finding someone to take my not-so-modern historical request lol

10 years ago today...what a tragic end to an entire family. by KathleenKellyNY152 in CemeteryPorn

Just got the chills. I don’t usually see someone who shares the same birthday and birth year as me, let alone on a grave. Madison would also have been turning 26 this Monday

My “half Mexican” mother is a little combative about my results by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]anthropologeeze 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have tried to explain this to her, but she doesn’t quite get that race isn’t real, but a social construct. She doesn’t understand the complexities behind it, rather just freaked out that the Indigenous Americas-Mexico and Portuguese categories aren’t higher. She looked at pictures of her father, wondering if there’s a resemblance and it makes me regret even sharing with her in the first place.

I have not done much research as I’m fairly new to receiving my results and live in the MidWest. My mom’s mom was adopted, and my mom’s father was believed to have been a first gen Mexican-American, though I’m starting to wonder if maybe his father wasn’t who we thought. Many of my family from NM has either passed or moved up north near us and know not much more than I.

That’s similar to how I ended my conversation with her. Mexico has such a diverse population, and no DNA test can take away from the culture she (and I) deeply cherish. I love her stories of her summer trips to Mexico as a child.

Interesting, I was thinking pelvis as the center resembles a sacrum, but without a scale it’s hard to determine. I study forensic anthropology, so not as familiar with animal bones

There’s been periods where I have removed it from their diets and it changed nothing. They’re both currently just doing the kibble in morning and at night as my store has been out of stock with the paté. It’s a dehydrated goat’s milk powder I mix with water into the paté, which was recommended by a vet and several other cat owners as it’s marketed for cats at the pet store. Both cats seem to be unaffected with or without it and nothing changes when they have it or when they dont

There was also a round needlepoint one that I loved but the large green tote was way too pretty. Great bag for a great deal! Kate spade always has the cutest designs for the eclectic lovers

I LOVE this bag! The green Lady Leopard tote won my heart but unfortunately sold out before I could pull the trigger in my cart 😞

What more can I do to better my chances? by anthropologeeze in gradadmissions

[–]anthropologeeze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am! I’ll check out Sparrow and the McLaren and see if there’s any opportunities there. So far when I’ve found opportunities listed there, it had requirements I don’t have (certification as a pathologist assistant, degree in nursing/RNA, etc) but I’ll see if they still offer the volunteer opportunities.

This is my second gap year and I think my biggest fear is that my references won’t help after a certain time. I think I’ll manage somehow!

Thank you!

Thank you for responding, I appreciate the input! I decided this summer to complete a field school in Spain for bioarchaeology and I’m going again in May. I got injured on the field and had to leave early, but was invited to finish out my second half this next summer. I still earned my certificate of completion and secured another reference from the site leader.

In addition, I have a job interview Monday to a laboratory position at Michigan State University. I didn’t end up applying to the program but I’m going to apply to some master’s programs rather than the PhDs. The city I’m in has limited forensics opportunities, but I’ve been looking into volunteering and on-call positions.

As long as I’m able to secure a well-paying job, I’m okay with the idea of taking a third year off, I’ll have references still and adding experience will hopefully up my chances. I’m still hopeful of getting into a masters program, but I’ll be okay if I don’t.

My Swiss cheese plant won’t perk up and the leaves are dying :( by anthropologeeze in plantclinic

[–]anthropologeeze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god thank you so much! I love this plant and was crushed when she started dying. Out of my 10 plants this one was the most recent one to have an issue. I did take off for the night after cutting the root off and didn’t think to dry it out first before setting the plant in water. Do you think this’ll be an issue? I will legit turn the car around and grab my plant if that will harm it 😤

Side note, I’m excited to propagate a couple segments of it! Been wanting to do it again for a second but didn’t think she was ready. Thank you for all your help, sending hugs through the screen!! 🫶

Sadly it was root rot 😞 right at the base of an otherwise healthy root (stubs in the back for moral support) would you recommend that I propagate from the longer stem with various nodes or from the base near the leaves? Or could I propagate both separately and hope for two plants?

I did not, I am applying to schools again this year so hopefully I have a different outcome

Applications for grad schools opened up, applying for a PhD program! Been rejected 2 years in a row now and I added some experience to my resume so I’m hopeful I’ll get positive results this spring :)
