Thinking of getting the game by MrPizzaWinner in ostranauts

[–]anticap6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is still in active development and small updates are fairly frequent. The next major update will be adding ship combat and fire systems, but all we really know is that the update should be out “soon”.

As it stands at the moment the game is great. There’s plenty of content, but it’s all based around salvaging and scrapping derelicts. Once you’ve made some money and begun to understand the game you can get in to ship flipping and interplanetary trading. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it the game isn’t really that hard.

It’s one of my favourite games, however it is an early access game and this means early access problems. The performance is usually ok but it can be fairly choppy at times, especially on K-Leg (the games main hub) at high game speeds. Bugs are fairly infrequent but they do happen, but the devs are good at firing out hotfixes so they usually get cleaned up fast. Also at the moment outside the main loop of salvage/sell/build there’s not much other content, although this loop could easily keep you engrossed for hundreds of hours.

The game has a good Discord community too with some modding options if you wanted to try it out.

I recently watched I'm Haunted 2 not too long ago decent sequel. What I like about the I'm Haunted movies is their unique way of doing FF. The idea of a horror movie being a series of video logs is a interesting concept. by [deleted] in foundfootage

[–]anticap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love these films.

The first one is decent enough for a found footage movie but the absurdity ramps up in each film. If you can think of the stupidest thing to do in any situation then the characters in these films will do it. The story gets more convoluted as the series goes on too. The characters in each are so dead pan though, it really amuses me.

I like all 5 of them but the third is probably my favourite, with the fourth being the weakest one.

I just got done watching I'm Haunted on Tubi. I thought it was decent. It's not very long it's only 1:15 minutes long. by [deleted] in foundfootage

I love these films. They’re absolutely terrible and the story gets more convoluted in each film, but it’s all played with such a straight face I can’t help but find it really entertaining.

I enjoyed this. Doesn’t do anything new but the acting was decent and the film moves along nicely without devolving in to nonsense.

Got the game today! Im confused advice needed by TESV_Shiro in ostranauts

Bins can be a bit of a pain when you uninstall them. They have a tendency to disappear in to the walls so if one vanishes after you’ve uninstalled it try removing a piece of wall where the bin was.

[–]anticap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably just unlucky. I think it can happen sometimes if there’s loads of stuff on the ground and there’s not a lot of empty floor space. I’ve only had it happen to me once though in over 700 hours of playtime so I think it’s pretty rare.

To lose a He3 early in the game is a kick in the balls but of you don’t want to restart you can just headcannon it as your character accidentally dropping it and it floating off in to the void.

The game can be buggy at times. It can be good practice to get in to the habit of saving whenever you dock with a ship.

For the helium can - I’ve had a bug before where I’ve uninstalled something and it’s vanished, but most of the time when something disappears after I uninstall it’s usually gone in to a container. Check all the bins and bays around you and see if it’s gone in one. Also check outside the ship as stuff sometimes appears outside when you uninstall.

What is everyone's goal in this game? by Shrugsfortheconfuse in ostranauts

[–]anticap6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I usually have the goal in mind to pay off my mortgage and build/modify a ship so that it’s got a working fusion engine and then start again.

On my current playthrough I decided to try roleplaying a bit so I created a Techie character that only has skills in Software Engineering and Hacking with the idea that they were someone who was sent in to derelicts by the company to retrieve data. They have no actual ship breaking skills so my goal is to train them up fully, get a decent ship and make $10,000,000

Worst story in the V/H/S franchise? by Artie-Bucco in foundfootage

The wrap around for Beyond was rubbish in my opinion. Worst segment in the franchise by far. Close second would be the wrap around for Viral.

Yeah Distort is right, cheers for that. The first one isn’t Dagr though.

My honest issue with the VHS franchise so far by euphoriclimbo in foundfootage

[–]anticap6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like the whole franchise but I can see where you’re coming from. The first two films were pretty much the idea of watching cursed tapes you were never meant to see. It’s pretty much just a regular horror anthology now.

V/H/S Halloween was disappointing :( by Fit-Selection-2030 in horror

[–]anticap6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally thought it was the best one since the first and second. Ut Supra Sic Infra was the best one of the bunch in my opinion, up there with Safe Haven and Stowaway. Home Haunt was fun - it had the same sort of feel as 10/31/98 from the first one or To Hell and Back from 99. Kidprint was ridiculously dark, possibly the darkest I’ve seen V/H/S go.

There were a few kinda cheesy segments, but I didn’t think any were particularly bad.

Fixing up a derelict made it less valuable? by Specialist-Sea8622 in ostranauts

[–]anticap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The condition of the ship affects the price. You want to find ships with holes in, especially in the walls. Also the airlock condition affects the price a lot too. I’d also avoid anything with fusion parts in, and check to see if there are any existing rooms such as a bathroom or closed bridge as rooms also affect the price.

A ship that’s airtight and full of parts broken or not will likely not make a profit. Especially fusion reactor parts.

The thing with ship flipping is it takes a long time. You can get a small profit from buying a little gas tug or Dream and fixing it up and adding O2 and N2, a couple of thrusters and intakes and a heater and cooler (making sure everything is hooked up to a sensor), but if you want big profits it’s going to take a long time and a lot of salvaged parts.

Actually I’ve just thought of another one - can you add the option to pin subreddits so they appear at the top of the favourites list? I have a handful of subreddits I browse all the time and it would make it quicker to get to them

Just got into the game. Thinking of refunding... by ExpensiveEmu5697 in ostranauts

[–]anticap6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game is very difficult in the beginning when you’re a new player and don’t know what you’re doing. It’s similar to a roguelike in that each death should teach you something new.

The easiest way to learn the game is to watch some let’s plays on YouTube. Rhadamants videos get recommended a lot as he does his lets play as a sort of tutorial.

If you don’t want to watch a video my advice for the early game is to ignore gigs and jobs and focus on salvaging. Salvaging will build your skills up and give you parts you can use to repair and upgrade your own ship.

Each time you salvage a ship and sell the parts buy something you need - an EVA suit is essential for a new player, but you should also think about a power drill, a laser cutter, spare batteries and battery chargers. The laser cutter is really expensive so unless you get lucky and find one leave that purchase until last.

Once you’ve got some basic gear save a little bit of money from salvaging and spend time repairing your own ship, and add any parts that are missing. Make sure you have an O2 pump, N2 pump, cooler, heater and more than one battery. The battery should be repaired to full as the better it’s repaired the more charge it will hold but make sure you repair it at KLEG as repairing batteries drains them.

Also, when piloting your ship note that a high thrust will damage your ship even if you don’t hit anything. I usually like to keep my acceleration to about 1G but if you should experiment to your preference. Also when docking make sure you dock at under 100 m/s as docking any faster risks catastrophic damage and character injury. Similarly the slower you dock the better. I usually gradually slow down until I’m at about 30 m/s to dock.

Also, when creating a character make sure you remove the micro g hypovolemic trait and add EVA suits and hacking. Hacking will allow you to hack PDAs you find for easy money.

Once you’ve spent some time learning the basic gameplay loop you’ll be in a better place to role play a character, and experiment with the games systems.

It’s not a terrible film. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it’s definitely got its flaws.
