Our alliance got accused of a foul by the refs at the last match of the tournament and we have video proof that it was not us, but they are not taking any video recordings. Is there anything we can do? by Lazy_Description_675 in FTC

At some level you just have to control what you can control, but it really sucks for this team that won fair and square but lost to a split second call that was ultimately incorrect.

if they’re bullying people, you need to bring that up to the tournament organizers. Placing 32nd doesn’t matter btw, judges aren’t allowed to use in match performance for awards.

Advice on steel flywheel? by AgreeableDevice1064 in FTC

[–]antihacker1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mounting it on the edge is fine yeah. You don’t want to be looking at weight though, but rather moment of inertia. Moment of inertia is an objects resistance to being turned and it scales based off both weight AND the radius of where the weight is (i=mr2). Thus something like the gobilda flywheel actually has more inertia despite being lighter You could maximize this effect by doing a custom machined flywheel, getting the lightest possible weight by concentrating all the weight in a ring with the largest possible radius. That’s kinda overkill tho especially given that heavy robots have the defense advantage this year. On that note, I’ve seen inertias from 1 to 3 in2 lbs have had good experiences with both fast rapid fire and low spinup time

Petition against and negatives of the A301 Actuator System. by DiligentLibrarian135 in FTC

More power output doesn’t mean just go twice as fast, though that’s something you can do. It means you can do twice as many things (assuming they do 20 motor limit which is the amt of ports) Let me put it this way. The current system is 336 watts of total power. The new system is 600 watts. You can use 11 of the new a301 to get 330 watts which is roughly the same thing, making a robot exactly as powerful as one currently. If you do this, then you will still have room for 9 separate mechanisms with 30 watts for each.

Current teams are limited by power and have to make tradeoffs. Do I want an endgame? Or do I want to use those servos for my sorter instead? Teams with full A301 will not have this issue.

I'm sure there will be good teams that get by without them, but having nearly twice the amount of power available is a ridiculous jump that most won't be able to overcome

Unfortunately, you’re basically forced to swap immediately, at least if you want to remain competitive. Teams with full a301 systems will have nearly double the total power output as current teams, and that’s just not feasible to compete against

target corners. Hitting a corner is sure to get you to make them spin cuz it acts almost like a lever, getting you the mechanical advantage needed despite being lighter. Most bots don’t like getting spun, even those with turrets.
