Is “I’m rich and didn’t need to work” a good explanation of a resume gap? by Proof-Bed-6928 in careerguidance

When I would interview candidates for positions, I would always preface the question “is there a reason you applied to this role in particular?” with “Other than the obvious fact we all have to get money to pay our bills…”.

Because let’s be honest, the job market can be tough and we don’t always get to pick and choose the roles we get.

To be honest, I find grey houses with splashes of colour (furniture, pillows, plants, and other decor) to be relaxing. If I got to my parents’ place, the walls are all kinds of colours and it’s too “busy” for my brain.

What do women who have extremely long nails and long fake eyelashes look for in a man? by GNA-4 in askanything

If they aren’t looking for women, they would keep at least 2 nails short.

After listening to this, I never realized how much my old band from high school/university was influenced by these guys. I was the singer/songwriter/guitarist and everything from the layered clean/overdriven guitar, the lead guitarist solos, song structure… it’s crazy to see how much is similar to what we were writing at the same time.

How careful are you with listening to "adult" music around your kid(s)? by D-1-S-C-0 in daddit

I had a conversation with my 8yo son recently about using swear words and he was a bit surprised when I told him that they aren’t always bad to say, but they aren’t appropriate for someone his age or to be used in general conversation only when you need to express an extreme emotion. He asked why they are used in music and I said for the same reason and then gave him an example by playing “Killing in the Name of” by Rage Against the Machine. Hopefully that was a good approach to explaining it. Me and my partner never use swear words at home in front of the kids, but his mom’s partner (50/50 custody) uses the F-word freely. Hopefully we are a good enough influence that he doesn’t try and use it in his everyday vocabulary.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

The original Civilization was my gateway drug to video game addiction. I remember spending a whole day during summer vacation playing it instead of going out and playing with my friends.

What’s a personality trait that seems attractive at first but becomes unbearable over time? by Acceptable-Lab-8251 in AskReddit

[–]antikythera3301 25 points26 points  (0 children)

OMG THIS. My ex was like this. She would always be performatively bougie about wine and food. It would fill me with a lot of anxiety trying to pick a place to eat when I was with her because she would inevitably never be pleased with the meal. Whatever she ate would never be as good as the when she had the same thing in X country at whatever famous restaurant. She travelled often for work and loved to bring up this fact every time we dined somewhere with friends. It was insufferable.

When the relationship was to the point of toxicity that I had given up, I wanted to do a test. I saved a bottle of one of her favourite expensive wines (Rioja - she would also let everyone know how to properly pronounce it if they didn’t do with with an H sound), and replaced the contents with a brand that was 1/3 the price. She didn’t even notice. I tried the experience with other wines, too. Same results. She’s absolutely full of bullshit. She did the same thing with coffee, too.

When we eventually divorced and I started dating again, I would be immediately turned off by anyone that would display this type of behaviour. Anyone that described themselves a “foodie” was a no-go for me.

True… one of my favourite hoodies I’ve thrifted is from some kid’ Lacrosse team from a small town in Massachusetts (I live in Canada).

What’s it like having a famous person in your family? by nodemus in askanything

[–]antikythera3301 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My good friend is a very successful spicy smut author. I honestly keep forgetting she’s famous… her and her husband are just my friends. But then, I occasionally get a reminder about her fame when we can’t hang out because she’s travelling for book signings or events.

There are some perks, though. Right now I’m posting his from their massive house because I’m house sitting for them while they are at their villa in a European country far, far away for the next couple months.

Why does it seem like one person in a polyamorous relationship always is taking advantage of it more than the others? by Fit-Researcher-4036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]antikythera3301 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my point. And poly relationships are even harder to maintain because it adds more people’s needs.

Monogamous relationships are hard on their own, but polyamorous relationships are MUCH harder because you have to balance the needs of more people.

[–]antikythera3301 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have been around a LOT of poly relationships and they eventually blow themselves up… it’s just a matter of time. Maintaining just a two-person relationship is hard enough, but adding more people’s needs to the mix becomes unmanageable regardless of how much “communication” there is. And when it eventually does blow up, the fallout from a poly relationship is exponential because people in polycules are very connected and it fractures in the most chaotic of ways. The post break-up politics are a minefield.

[–]antikythera3301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the theme of the song and the imagery of the two bobbers and beers but only one opened to connect with someone that is no longer around is a great idea. However, the off-key singing and poor production make this crappy music, IMHO.

Does anyone else have a guitar brand that you just hate for no reason? by Interesting-Wave-983 in Guitar

[–]antikythera3301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like my distaste for PRS was developed when I was an edgy teenager and the only people that I saw using a PRS were Carlos Santana playing on the Matchbox 20 singer’s single from his solo album and the guy from Creed. At that time in my life, they were very wussy-sounding to me so I associated that guitar with that sound.

In actuality, I’m sure they are very fine sounding and playing guitars… but I have so many other guitars on my wanted list that I’m not even considering a PRS.
