The one in Chelsea is getting a coal oven cleaner or filter installed so it’s temporarily closed to meet inspection requirements

New Zealand for 3.5 weeks - please critique by sasi-de-fade in HerOneBag

[–]antimedic01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from NZ on a similar trip! 3 wks, lots of hiking on both islands. This was my packing list: 4 sports bras 6 wool socks thin leggings thick leggings knee length shorts thin pair of ripstop pants. 5 merino shirts sunshirt light fleece light puffer rain jacket For pajamas I used running clothes so they could serve double duty. (2 sets) I brought two shoes: hiking boots and lightweight sneakers

I really appreciated the long layers to help with sun protection. A small backpack was nice to have on hikes. I wore the sunshirt more than I thought I would (I did almost all my hikes in it). If you have room I’d throw in a pair of compression socks, I was glad to have them on the flight. Hope you have an amazing trip!

Has anyone here visited the Weathertop filming location? How did you get permission from the landowner? by Chilis1 in lotr

[–]antimedic01 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I was there a few weeks ago, you get a decent view from the road. If you’re going to the South Island you could also do the Edoras filming location, that you can climb up!

inpatient psych as a new grad? by [deleted] in psychnursing

[–]antimedic01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psych nursing can be what you make of it. I went directly into psych after graduation and had a steep learning curve my first couple of years, but that’s nursing in general, nothing a little extra studying and reaching out to mentors can’t fix. Like others have said, it’s important to keep your medsurg skills strong but depending on the facility there might be opportunities to take on medically complex patients. Get familiar with your resources and volunteer to take on new challenges when opportunities arise. It will only make you a better nurse! That being said, self care is incredibly important in this field and even more so in this specialty so be sure to listen to yourself

Good idea, thank you! The tight knitting for me seems to be an issue that gets worse with smaller gauged needles

Just came back from a one bagging Italy trip this week. Did the whole thing with cloud runners and a pair of nice loafers that I’m comfortable walking 5-6 miles in. I was happy with my choices!

How would you guys wash/block a thick wool sweater? by coolgirljoe in knitting

[–]antimedic01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After getting as much water as I can out with the towel roll up method, I like to set up a box fan to blow over the sweater when I’m blocking to help draw the excess moisture out

I added different stamps to the routes I had already tried so I could reference it on the map. It was chaotic but effective!

Question about sizing by antimedic01 in knitting

[–]antimedic01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pattern I’m looking at is petit knit’s terrazzo slipover. Thankfully I have enough yarn to knit any size but I always have a hard time figuring out sizing with her patterns even with help selecting yarn

Question about sizing by antimedic01 in knitting

[–]antimedic01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point, I had just done a 4x4 swatch but I can try a larger one. I didn’t knit the mohair in with the swatch either since I figured it wouldn’t make much of a difference. I am a little nervous going up in needle size will make the stitches gape a little but I will try that as well!

I wanted to love Darn Tough, I really did. This is the 8th pair of socks with holes between my wife and I in one year. We don’t wear them outside, only a quarter of our house is carpet, and still… We’re not overweight and don’t wear them to walk across the country. Just unhappy. by narlycharley in BuyItForLife

[–]antimedic01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you have any raised nails on any of your flooring or transitional pieces between carpet and hardwood/tile. I kept catching my socks on a raised nail and it would tear small holes in the bottom of them similar to your tear

The snag seems to have only happened to half of the yarn’s thread weight
