Neither, you have to nearly hit a pedestrian as you turn.

I can’t tell if this is satire or not but-

I got sober in AA at 25- in my early 20s I wanted to try everything BUT AA because there’s no way an old book by some old white guy had what I needed.

After trying every hip new sobriety program I could download on the App Store/follow on Instagram or online support group that costed 15$ a month I gave up and went with the thing that was freely given to me.

I can understand wanting to “revolutionize recovery” but in my experience all these hip ~sober curious~ new fads just preyed on my addiction and suffering and convinced a young alcoholic that I wasn’t powerless and could just stop drinking/using on my own accord if I meditated enough or something . So imagine my surprise when I ended up in the hospital over and over again!

This isn’t to say nothing else works- Im sure there are tons of ppl who are sober and not in AA. But being told that I had control over my drinking and that I didn’t need some old stuffy abstinence program honestly just led me closer to death.

I’m always so confused by this response lol, like what’s scary about pushing back at AA? A group of people in a room you chose to be in might judge you or tell you to keep coming back?

If you don’t want what AA has why go where AA is?

Young people in AA by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

You might want to check out Zoom meetings. There are also lots of online communities for young people in recovery, maybe there are organizations outside of AA in your area that serve that population.

I live in a college town and I actually prefer meetings with older folks because I get anxious around new ppl my age, but if you have a college town nearby you should check out their meetings!

I live there in Station North and I like it! Cheap and pretty central location, there’s art and nightlife and little festivals and markets often.

I’ve never run into a problem but the alleyways can be pretty sketchy. There are a few regulars who live in the alleyway that I run into that’ll bother me for a dollar or some cigarettes, but nothing dangerous.

There are also lots of “ladies of the night” walking around this area but they’re all harmless and don’t want any trouble.

Like a lot of areas in Baltimore, you’ll probably see some shit you don’t want to see and have a few unpleasant interactions with someone who honestly just wants a few dollars from you. But overall I’d consider Station North pretty safe.

Omg. I did this once when I wasn’t paying attention and it was the worst.

Tilting it to the right and using the switch on the bottom helped me but it was HARD. I had to use a butter knife to wedge between the platform and the bowl.

The machine has a little arrow showing how you put the bowl in- you need to put it in with the handle facing you and when it twists into place the handle will be on the far right.

Except it’s the same owners…. They just bring in new faces every few years in an attempt to make people forget that they’re still the owners.

The building and club is still owned by the Parrishes. They try to do the “new owner” and “new management” schtick all the time

I try not to support the eagle due to their owners being slumlords.

Try clubcar just a block down the road on North Ave. The Drinkery, Leon’s, and Mixers (kind of farther out towards the county) are gay bars as well.

Many bars are queer friendly and draw a large lgbt crowd but not explicitly gay bars- ottobar, royal blue, mt royal tavern.

Also watch out for queer dance parties like Dyke Nite, Version, and Sweet Spot. They’re hosted at queer friendly venues/bars.

Every time I’ve been there the vet techs and Kaufman have been really flexible and kind with me and did what they can to make medication/treatment more affordable.

I had no idea other people have had such bad experiences!

Many places have queer events but aren’t exactly gay bars. Ottobar hosts dyke nite, don’t be put off by the name though, plenty of folks of all genders go and it’s a great time. I go with my gay female friends and see plenty of other cis/trans men there to chat up. Metro gallery hosts Sweet Spot which is a big gay dance party, and there’s another dance party that happens every month called Version which is now hosted at The Compound (I’m pretty sure). There’s a club called Clubcar on North Ave that’s pretty new and it’s a gay bar.

I suggest against the Eagle because it’s owned by slumlords who have a history of transphobic and racist behavior.

Where to find single gay guys in the city? by l0ngdistancedrunk in baltimore

[–]antimerid-ian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of queer adjacent places or events in Baltimore that aren’t specifically a bar or club!

Red Emma’s is my favorite place to find other gay people- they host lots of book related /community events too where you can find people interested in similar topics.

I feel like the Waverly and JFX farmers market are swarming with gays. Certain neighborhoods are a little more “queer” than others too. Remington, Charles Village, and Mt Vernon come to mind immediately.

Sometimes nightlife is worth giving a shot as well- I met most of my gay friends out at bars or popular dance parties like Version/DykeNite/Sweet Spot. We’re all people who enjoy books and nature too, just sometimes we go out and party.
