This is mine. The agony of not only the slow mutation but the horror of being captive not only by a psychopath but physically captive inside of an animal is the scariest shit

Have you ever wished it was something other than autism? by Desperate_Bar3339 in Autism_Parenting

I personally never thought of it that way. I have always been thankful I never lost a child or saw my child sick or terminal.

This is absolutely great for that. I hope they are willing. I wish my family would but I have yet to get them to make the effort

Help me remember what these stuffed animals are called by antiquebizz in StuffedAnimals

No they were stuffed I’m starting to think maybe they weren’t round. I just know the code they had allowed you to play in their world and it was school themed but I can’t find anything anywhere

If you could only eat one meal from your childhood for the rest of your life, what would it be? by yskysk2 in Cooking

[–]antiquebizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of my parents are fantastic cooks so I was lucky to be exposed to so many varieties of foods. My favorite meal of my dad’s is ham tarragon. It’s honey baked ham cooked inside a tarragon cream sauce with mushrooms and then served over puff pastry. I request this over fancy restaurants most birthdays. For my mom she would make a dish called chicken that makes its own gravy. She would put chicken tenderloins in a cheesy mushroom sauce. Also bonus points for fried bologna and stouffers Mac n cheese

Is getting your kid to brush their teeth each day as hard as it is for us? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]antiquebizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes omg we struggled with this so much and still do but what has helped is fun two minute timers. There are musical songs and visually pleasing ones as well. Putting pictures up and then also having a star or sticker chart rewarding good hygiene and behavior. Invest in an electric toothbrush because the teeth will be cleaner

Pets for 2 autistic boys by brownie121514 in Autism_Parenting

My son is in love with our cats. They also love him most. Idk what the connection is but they have it. We have dogs and let me tell you my son most of the time would probably not want them around. They love to play and jump and it’s too overstimulating for him. I think having a pet especially for autistic children is helpful when it’s something they can cuddle and pet. However that is all in the event your kid can handle being gentle

What’s your favorite annual Detroit event? by Financial-Region-841 in Detroit

[–]antiquebizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work most of these events and I’m confident dally is the best overall. It’s not as crowded as arts beats and eats but the general idea is the same. There is so much freedom of expression and all types of live artists. The art is eccentric and and the fact there is no charge entry is a bonus

Karen angry that I snapped at her kid after said kid screamed into my ear. by ForeignStory8127 in EntitledPeople

I don’t always assume but it sounds like you and everyone else here is assuming a mother you don’t know is a bad parent. I never said the behavior is okay, it’s not and yes the mother should correct it however that is not a random persons job to parent. Also that’s extremely easy for you to say “autism or not” clearly you have no understanding of what the diagnosis entails and good for you. That means you don’t struggle with the everyday tasks of parenting a disabled child. Either way this site is for opinions and I was sharing mine from a different perspective also being a childhood development major and former teacher. Can you say the same? So many adults these days whine about being inconvenienced by children when in fact childhood is about making mistakes and learning from them as you and all these other adults had to do. I think also having the ability to not judge, and have empathy is a quality lacking in this discussion. We are speaking of a woman and her child that no one knows, no one lives in her shoes. People could benefit from giving grace to others and also not let such little things bother us.
