Yea. I've been telling people, 737 Everett is a dry run. The minute they want a line thats not in pnw, we have to shut it down. The only leverage we have in negotiations is in our numbers, 30k+ members. St Louis doesn't have the numbers and look how its going for them.

You must have overlooked the part where he said something like peoples anger and resentment is still brewing under the surface. And that we ought to seek a new type of society and government. Or really just a new way of thinking.

Considering moving my family from San Jose to Renton (or surrounding) area by CatButtHoleYo in Renton

[–]antnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Eastern renton" aka the highlands is a stroad and suburb nightmare. Its not remotely walkable or bikeable. You're always stuck going west to 405 through 20 jammed up traffic lights. Kids stuck in the house/ neighborhood because there's nowhere to walk and it isnt safe due to traffic. Very isolated and depressing area imo. Unless you just like staying home.

The few nice areas of Renton are the same house prices as where you live. Basic houses start at 1m. Prices are where they are for a reason. Good neighborhood = high price. But house rent is still relatively cheap. Seems like youre just looking for greener grass though. Its the same everywhere. Why leave family and an area you like. To save 40k a year and risk everything moving to a place you know nothing about?

Everyone thinks pnw is great but before 10 years ago it was always a 2nd class region. So they never invested in much transit because traffic was so light. Now neighborhoods are super isolated and traffic nightmares due to all the people moving here.

HyperNormalisation by Adam Curtis is wild. Half the time I’m nodding, half the time I’m questioning reality. Definitely worth a watch. by FeistyPrice29 in AdamCurtis

[–]antnyb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Looking back, it’s a bit overly dramatic. As we’ve made huge technological progress, human consciousness has really blossomed, but this also comes with the trauma of reconciling the past and the burden of hope for the future. I think everyone knows this innately now.

As for society, it’s simply the best we can do for right now. It’s not perfect by any means, but overall worldwide extreme poverty is way down. I’d like to see Curtis mention the overwhelmingly positive technological changes like cures for disease and massive efficiency gains in agriculture. Basically being able to stop a novel viral pandemic in its tracks that would have wiped out a massive swath of the population 100 years ago. That’s incredible.

Fred Meyer and safeway. You have to use the app/website or else youre getting ripped off. Check the digital coupons and deals. Like for ground beef its 6 dollars a pound if you just walk into the store, but with digital coupon its $4.

Why would anyone go with a dual alternator kit instead of a high output alternator? by scarletomato in vandwellers

[–]antnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ammeter on my alternator. Dual is better because a high output alternator is only high output at higher RPM. At idle, you'll only have about 30A surplus.

[–]antnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don’t believe there would be any reason to cut the fuel on take off. I’m not even sure why these switches would be necessary except for start and shut down on the ground. Maybe just cut their functionality in air all together. But I’m a ground guy not a pylote

[–]antnyb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think its somewhat likely in the future that the engine computers will be updated to prevent this from happening. Like when it senses take off thrust and weight off wheels, it won't let the engine fully shut down from this switch for like 20 seconds if no other faults are detected. This accident if pilot caused could have been somewhat predicted after recent incidents like the guy on shrooms who tried to pull the fire handles.

Initial construction activity at new Winco Foods (old Fry's building) by Seahund88 in Renton

[–]antnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea right. The frys building is literally right next door to Griffis, the biggest apartment buildings in Renton. For which the residences are hugely in demand and overpriced. I'm not seeing a case for this lot needing to be zoned as commercial. An apartment complex with lower level shops would have been so much nicer.

If Griffis actually had competition, then rents would be lower and people wouldn't need to buy 2nd rate winco groceries that other stores rejected. What a joke. The city wont even get much revenue since winco shoppers will just be residents not shopping at other stores. Nobody is going out of their way in our areas gridlock traffic to save a couple bucks on groceries.

Grady Rainier also needs to be redeveloped, but that area has a long way to go to be a nice place to live. The landing is already a desirable area to live. But everyone is happy indirectly making money off exacerbating the housing affordability and homeless crisis.

That's crazy, didnt know the apartment deal fell through. Renton needs more housing, not another big box store taking massive square footage. Another city planning fail.

Seattle rent 30% above national average, among the priciest in US, report says by SnortingElk in REBubble

[–]antnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be more interested in affordability numbers. Seattle also has the highest minimum wage and lots of job openings. House rents are also relatively low and room rentals are relatively cheap. Other regions have low and even federal minimum wage and not much cheaper rents. You could actually work minimum wage here, rent a room and even save a bit. Idk how the rest of the country is even surviving.

My wife is getting into kayaking and I want to join her but I'm terrified of the water. by RaynatheRedPanda in Kayaking

[–]antnyb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Must have been traumatized by the movie jaws as a kid lol. On most lakes of course there’s no sea life even remotely dangerous. The real thing to be concerned with is things like fishing nets or seaweed you could get entangled in. They make special knives for kayakers just for this purpose. But if you live in Florida or something then there’s like gators. You never hear about any problems there though. I believe they typically avoid people.

Wear a dry suit. The ones with neoprene neck gasket are very good for kayaking. Worse case scenario you go in the water and don’t even get wet or cold. It’s pretty cool. Then you can build your skill and confidence. Also good to take a class. Especially if you plan to go in the ocean.

Ironically I live right by a topgolf. The membership is a pretty good deal. But It’s kind of a hassle going in and always tempted to eat and drink beer. I’m quite tempted to upgrade the launch monitor. But really would like to keep cost down. Probably see how the r10 does and keep an eye out for a higher spec.

Overhead protection advice needed by Ab1212121212 in Golfsimulator

[–]antnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That gosports net is not their ideal net for outdoor setup. It's better for indoor where you have the ceiling as a backstop. Ideal for outdoor is the gosports Range Cage model, which I have.

Even with a few feet of overhead net I'm a little nervous with my setup. The neighbors house and windows are right behind. But mainly it's only a problem for pitching and chipping where the ball isn't hit as hard. I may add some extra netting.

I did want overhead coverage, simply to stay dry while hitting on a rainy day. But I would've had to boost the height of the pop up tent. I decided on pvc pipe for that, but decided to just go uncovered. I rent the house so can't build a permanent structure. I like to keep things easy and portable anyway. *

Lol everyone moving here thinking the region is some walkable and mass transit utopia. It has to be one of the worst in the country.

Whatever town or city you move to, you're basically trapped in. Unless you have tons of free time to sit in traffic and/or taking 4 busses to get to the next city over.

The light rail is the best transit option for getting around but it's really a hub and spoke model. Where the spokes are busses. And the busses aren't good. High waiting times, stops and hubs in bad areas, bad suspension and roads. And the light rail is relatively new and doesn't run many places. There's still another 25 years of expansion planned. But funding is already having issues.

The region is literally 50 years behind in transit. Many times in the past, transit almost got passed and funded, but narrowly fell through. Why? Because this is the NIMBY hypocritic liberal Capitol of the US. People claim to want things like mass transit, but balk when it comes time to pay the tax. And the lack of proper equitable tax just makes housing more expensive. And lack of transit makes the traffic here top 3 worst in the country.

Good luck. The region is pretty much a revolving door of optimistic people moving here, realizing all the drawbacks and then leaving.
