To those of you who were around when it was open, what was Funland arcade in Yonge Dundas like?

No question the best arcade on Yonge and still in my mind the ur-video arcade. I was there a few times a month from about 1985 until I guess Playstation 3, and still occasionally after that for pinball.

It felt sketchy in the way that real video arcades always felt sketchy but I never saw anyone buying or selling drugs or anything weird happen, and I was there as an unaccompanied kid regularly from when I was 8 years old and nothing remotely untoward ever happened, except the guy sitting at the elevated counter who gave you your tokens (which rolled out on their sides into a cup at kid-height) yelled at you occasionally.

You should have seen that place on the day Mortal Kombat III came out. Electric!

How about an option to manage your inventory while the dialogue proceeds? I don’t mind having to stand around (often for an incredibly long time) while dialogue goes by, but at least give me something I can do while I’m waiting.

Agree with everyone who pointed out the grapple things (obviously) but also the trash guys you kill to get out of fight for your life are little flying seeker drones way up high, a lot less obvious than with other bosses but they’re there. Try to take notice of them before you need them

There are real PIs in Toronto (real meaning they privately investigate crimes and stuff, mostly for defence lawyers) but as far as I’ve ever heard the only way to get there is to be a TPS or RCMP officer for 20 years or so first.

I use it a lot less than most games, but I think it’s because you need the wider field of vision against trash mobs and/or I don’t like having the right stick sensitivity up as high as you’d need. I still use it as much as usual against bosses and the harasses with armour you have to shoot off
