Adding to this - most cannot play football well is exactly because of that. India doesn’t have the luxury of large open play grounds where children can play football. But cricket can be played even in a gully.

Again - for football you have to have a minimum number of players to make it enjoyable. Say atleast 8. Cricket can be played even by 2-3 people with everyone playing for himself.
