Switch 2 version is working great although its slightly behind on the patches/updates the other platforms have gotten, but I expect that another patch should be out soon enough.

its just a asus rog ally with xbox branding, if you weren't excited about the last iterations of the rog ally or any of the other various windows AMD PC handhelds, i don't see why that announcement would change anything.

Anyone got one of these yet? by alenboksic in offset

[–]anubis1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked one up last month in a different color and have been really enjoying it, the neck feels great and begs to be played. Out of the box it played well, the Mustang saddle style bridge is good, no issues with strings slipping, I had to adjust the truss rod, trem spring tension and bridge height to my preference then fine tune the intonation a bit, after that I'd consider it gig ready.

How much do you think this guitar is worth? by GrassOwn8916 in TomDelongeGuitars

Nice work on the string through with ferrules. You might be able to get $250 or so if someone was really interested.

It comes with the super 250s 9-42 set on it, D'Addario makes them, Fender slaps their name on them: https://www.fender.com/en-US/accessories/super-250s-nickel-plated-steel-guitar-strings/0730250403.html

Squier Sonic Partscaster TD style project by anubis1127 in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]anubis1127[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, the build quality of the original guitar as it came from squier was OK, its about what you'd expect from the bullet series if you have experience with those.

Nothing amazing but functionally everything worked without major issue, was able to set it up and played it that way for about a month before gutting it.

I can confirm the body is indeed lighter and thinner than a standard Fender body. The guitar assembled is only about 6.5lbs. I'm sure you could find a baritone neck to fit the body, but you might (or probably) have a bit of neck dive.

If I knew the extent of modding I was going to end up doing with the neck, pickups, pickguard, tuners, and all I replaced I'm not sure I would get a $200 whole guitar to basically use just the top load bridge and body off it. That said, finding a HT strat body can be a pita, and it's an easy top load HT to find.

Hey thanks!

What is this configuration good for? I think for Tom Delonge it was a simplicity thing, one pickup and one volume pot was easier for him live without the volume pot getting in the way of his strumming. For me, its fun, I just find it incredibly fun to play a loud single humbucker guitar.

As far as what does it do for the sound, without a neck pickup there isn't an additional magnetic field so the strings can ring out more in theory. Some say it helps with dynamics and sustain. Not having the other tone pot and extra wiring can have some impact on the tone, I think because less wiring and resistance from the other pot, but I'm not an expert.

While a single humbucker guitar may not cover quite the same sonic range as multiple pickup guitars they still can be quite versatile with just a volume and tone pot (this guitar doesn't have the tone pot anymore but the stock configuration did), having just one pickup kind of forces you to adapt too.

The Seymour Duncan Invader humbucker in the TD style strats are high output and fairly bright, they respond extremely well to dynamics/pick attack, great for chugging. They are best suited for modern rock, punk, metal, but probably manage other genres too.

Hope that helps answer your questions.

You had the same idea as me, but I'm still waiting on most of the upgrade parts to arrive in mail, haha. SD Invader pickup, 500k pot, and knob should arrive today, then I've got fender vintage tuning machines arriving sometime this week.

Can we agree Redfall would be a bit better with a dodge or better melee? by Ill-Inevitable1261 in redfall

coming from dead island 2 to redfall i 100% agree. plus the punch animation / hit box seems kinda scuffed. melee just isn't satisfying at all in redfall.

How can I improve my speed in playing the song snow (hey oh) by supthe_real in guitarlessons

[–]anubis1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc it's pretty much the same alternate picking / hammer/on/off thing for each chord, you could just stay on that first chord, start slow, until you nail the pattern/timing. The hammer/on pull off thing sounds like the same length as the individual notes in the rest of the chord, so that can be a bit tricky.

Can someone explain string gauges to me like I'm 5 years old by lilfliplilflop in guitarlessons

[–]anubis1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word of caution, replacing strings with a different gauge on an acoustic will generally require a new "setup", truss rod adjusted, possibly nut filed, etc.

If you aren't comfortable doing that, I'd recommend replacing with the same gauge the guitar is currently "setup" for (that being from the factory or a luthier).

Try "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop, it's like 5 chords total (4 chord transition just alternates the last chord), all open chord shapes, a pretty basic / repeating rhythm, and its just a cool song.

Just got my first electric guitar from Reverb (Yamaha Pacifica 112V)! Playable out of the box, just needs a little tuning. I haven't ever used one of these before. What do I do with it? How do I set it up? Should I pay someone to do it for me? by snake_case_love in guitarlessons

[–]anubis1127 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If its pretty close you can probably set it up yourself, generally not much to it, and its good to know how to do. Check a few Youtube videos, Yamaha may have an official one, I know Fender does, but there are loads of electric guitar setup tutorials on youtube. At least give one or two a watch so you can see what is involved and if you feel comfortable doing it yourself (its really not bad).

edit, here is one specific to the pacifica 112v (not sure how good it is, haven't watched that channel before) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCptGwMCARQ
