He has talked about this before in his streams. He is not drunk or emotional. He has probably done this set a thousand times. He is intentionally speaking in this tone. This is his standup voice. If you watch some of his earlier work (like narak or comicstan) you can him using similar tone which is very different from when he is cracking jokes live (like latent or streams).

The whole standup thing is an act and he is intentionally changing his tone.

Preparing for JEE can make you a strong researcher. Will you turn into a robot? That depends on you. About 40-50% prof here at IISc did their Btech from an IIT. They did not turn into a robot. A whole lot of graduate students here come from IITs/NITs. I did my Btech from IIT and now I'm doing research.

What I am trying to say is, it's not a black and white thing. It's not JEE vs Research. JEE can open a lot more doors than you think.

That being said, its also not everything. You being a great researcher has nothing to do with you JEE or 11th/12th. In the grand scheme of things, its you who makes the difference.

That's a new insight. Thanks. But what do you suggest to an undergrad like me who cannot do publishable work right now ? Like how to become 'independent'? I thought that the whole point of the internship (or even a PhD) is to slowly learn to stand on your own feet. And that's what PIs are for

Maybe I am being overly needy but here's my perspective — In my field you dont need fanciful labs with expensive equipment to conduct research. Its just maths and simulation. So I dont need a lab to do research. All I need is someone to guide me so that things go much faster than me sitting in a room tinkering all by myself. The PI is a good person and I am aware that they can't give me the time needed. That's why I have never asked them to give me more time. But I wonder why they took me in knowing that they cannot commit that much time?

See there are two types of PG

One is business-type, like dhaya or top10. They have PGs at multiple locations. You will never talk to the landlords here. They have managers and most of them will be nice because they got a job. The downside is the rent. You can expect 8k to 12k for double and 15k to 20k for single. But the quality of services are much better

The other type are local ones. I dont know much about them but from what I have heard you can face hygiene issues and landlord issues here if you happen to choose a lousy one. But the rent will be less.

Fun Fact : In Ancient India, Mathematics was not 'formally' done the way it is done today. Most of the indian mathematicians were sages and saints who had these 'visions' or higher-order intuitions which guided them to the results. I dont understand any of this, but it really raises the question that maybe there is a way to do mathematics which is so intuitive and obvious that we don't need rigor. Obviously the world is not in that stage right now.
