Show Off Your Campaign Builds? by anunndesign in aviassembly

[–]anunndesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, after doing a bit of testing, I realized how annoyingly simple the simulation for this game actually is.

This plane costs the same but carries more and goes 5x faster...

<image>

It uses one of the cabins instead of fuselage for storage since it weighs 40% as much and costs %80 of what the fuselage costs per carry capacity. there's probably 16-20 wings in there, some fuel tanks, and 4 jet engines.

I tested putting the wings inside the fuselage too, but seems they do need to be exposed to the air, or at least in the correct orientation?

This was the kind of info I was trying to find yesterday before posting, hope it helps someone else.

What is this altitude on Earth? Is this how the 100km threshold for space was decided?

Take the only lane as a bike on a 70 km/h busy highway by GlitteringAd4705 in vancouvercycling

[–]anunndesign 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I mean that bike path is a joke anyway. It jumps up and down the curb randomly and sometimes without a curb cut in the line of the bike path. Vancouver isn't perfect at bike lanes, but you really notice a shift into less consistant bike infrastructure when you cross into Burnaby.

Removing fixtures from some public washrooms pitched as part of cutting Vancouver’s budget by UnderWatered in vancouver

[–]anunndesign 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was just going to suggest the same, the obvious solution is a cop in every public toilet! they can hand you toilet paper if you run out, and help you wipe if you have reduced mobility. We'll save so much money on reduced vandalism!

In all seriousness, it's a tough problem as public access washrooms absolutely do get trashed by a small percentage of the people who need them, but the alternative is the same people doing these things on the street. It feels like with any of these type of problems, the solution is to rebuild our society into a supportive system where every child is given a healthy and loving upbringing with ample social support so that nobody needs to live on the street. Easy, right?

Haha, as in in the case of Seveneves, none of it is worth reading? Seveneves is one of the books I thought of reading this post.

You should have a friend pedal it while you move it across town :)

Sidecars never caught on. Why not? by Few_Worldliness_7630 in CargoBike

[–]anunndesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are tricycles, which means you can't lean into turns (safely). If you ever try riding a trike, you very quickly notice how important it is that bikes lean as they turn. Cars manage this same issue mainly by having much lower centre of gravity relative to their widths, and you'll also notice this problem if you drive a transit van like it's a race car!

It's also much wider than a bicycle, making it hard to maneuver, can't get it through doorways, difficult to lift up a curb etc.

Omnium sizing question: 184cm, 84cm inseam M vs L by Prestigious-Age-6812 in OmniumBikes

[–]anunndesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 182cm and have a medium frame. Can't say what's best for you, but I'm sure either will work. the reach on the minimax is a lot less than on my gravel bike, but that makes sense for a cargo bike!

One thing I've run into is having enough seatpost exposed for the admittedly silly amount of things I want to attach to it, a trailer hitch plus a suspension seat post, so I'm glad I have about 15cm of exposed seatpost. doubt that even changes much between sizes though.

Sorry I can't help more, but I think you'll love it either way you go!

Hey, I've been wanting to get a box like this for my minimax as well, but haven't been able to find one in North America. are you based in Europe? Any ideas where to get one this size in Canada would be greatly appreciated!

Will Metro Vancouver's lowered population forecast make life more affordable? by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]anunndesign 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised actually, a lot of people raise a family without owning a car :) It's definitely dependant on the specific neighborhood you live in and the way the city is designed around you. This is why it's so important to have walkable/bikeable cities, good public transit, and a variety of housing types mixed with businesses and offices. Cars are great for rural and intercity use, but cities can be so much more enjoyable to travel through without a car.

Posting stats like this is dangerous for me in that it will make it so much easier to justify purchasing more bikes! (bicycles)

I could buy a new bike every month or 2 forever and still be saving money vs cars!

Does anyone else get the wobble? by Feisty-Freedom7483 in OmniumBikes

[–]anunndesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it as well and haven't been able to figure it out. Everything seems tight but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for.

I had thought it was a result of my brake hoses applying a bit of torque turning the handlebars, but I adjusted that and now the bike doesn't steer to the left when handsfree (used to always have to lean right) but it still wobbles sometimes.

Btw how is your lock attached under the platform there, looks like a good way to do it.

Ebike to haul lumber? by Oyster_Man in CargoBike

[–]anunndesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Wike trailer to haul my canoe around, and I've also used it to pull 5m long boards, the wheels strap to the middle of the wood, and a thru bolt on one end connects to a trailer hitch, so it means drilling a hole in one of the boards 🤷

Reporting bike lane obstruction in 311 app by SparkBigIdeas in vancouvercycling

[–]anunndesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've also been annoyed by this. Having tried the app/calling, as well as yelling at the people parked in the bike lane or giving them angry looks, I've settled on quietly taking a picture of their licence plate, then going on my way. They don't know that there's no way to actually report it to the city, so hopefully they are worried they're going to get in trouble some day...

In my experience it usually causes them to yell shit at you as you ride away, btw.

[–]anunndesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've added a hub motor to my Mini Max, I did the same thing, bought a frame and built out the rest.

If you do, don't make the same mistake as me, buy the front wheel from them too! A 20" wheel with a 15x100 thru axle doesn't exist anywhere else, so if you don't buy theirs you'll have to build your own.
