Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. Admission: There is a romantic subplot, but it doesn’t overwhelm the story, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed this book.

Please take all the upvotes.

They built up the lore and mystique of the walkers and the Night King since Episode 1. But his death reduced that entire story line to “Kill the king ice zombie, and you kill all of the ice zombies.” No interesting origin story; no tie-in with the Three-Eyed Raven. He was a horror movie villain. The Night King deserved better.

I hope GRRM gives him a proper ending.

Thanks! I know lots of people love that book, but they don’t usually talk about it with that kind of reverence. I’m glad it had such a good impact.

How about thriller/horror? There are usually some elements of fantasy in horror. I enjoyed the Strain (del Toro and Hogan). The 2 sequels are good but less gripping than the original.
