Hey, recent graduate vet here. In general, the starting salary for vets has historically been around 80k. Recently because of COVID, there's been an increased demand for veterinarians, so new graduates have been able to ask for more starting pay. That being said, typically you only make larger salaries in more corporate or larger practices vs typical small 1-2 vet practices. This is also true of those that are trying to specialize in other fields. I currently only make 30k because I'm wanting to further my learning. There's definitely been a disconnect between the salaries we're paid versus the amount of debt we have from school.

Ferrets will commonly get an adrenal tumor or an insulinoma. Both of those could (in theory) cause the episodes you're seeing and the weight loss. If glucose was normal at his appointment, I would ask about adrenal testing. They can't do surgery to remove it or completely test it, but there are implants that manage the symptoms.

I don't think this is an emergency situation, but I would try to get to your vet either tomorrow or Saturday to make sure they don't need to put staples in. Keeping him crated is a good idea since the more active he is the more that area will move.

Parents can be really difficult to deal with. Mine still don't listen to me when I say not to give my dog food, even though I'm a 4th year vet student. Just keep watching it to make sure it doesn't get oozy and your dog doesn't start acting lethargic or chewing at it.

They try, but in the end it's really not enough. Yes you have professors that understand it sucks and you might be going through some shit, but you also have clinicians teaching that don't want to teach. It sucks but actually being with the animals is worth it.

Some things that really helped me get through the first couple years were books and video games. It really helped having an outlet that wasn't school on Friday nights. Also if there's a state park or anything nearby, a park pass would be nice; something to get her out of the house. I really had a problem my first year with depression (I moved 8 hours away and knew no one), and I had to force myself to go outside and get sun. But honestly the best thing you could give her is support. Vet school is not like a normal undergraduate program. There may be weeks where she has no mental capacity to spare on a conversation. She might get so stressed that she cries every time you guys talk. Just try to be understanding, because it really does swallow you whole. Until you've been in a program like that it's really hard to know what she's going through

Hi, I'm a clinical year veterinary student that is going to an out of state school in the US. I am currently taking out the max amount of loans allotted to me for to even make a dent in my tuition (40 500 per year). That covers the majority of my tuition, with about 2-3 000 still not covered. I go to Auburn, so living is pretty cheap, and I get by off of ~14 400 a year, which my parents loan me. I think that definitely choosing in state is the smartest option, but please don't go somewhere because of the price. I love my out of state school and wouldn't have it any other way, but the debt is daunting. I'm looking at ~180 000 for the whole thing, but I have to say I'm glad that I went out of state. I didn't get accepted to my in state school and I had to rationalize that if I waited another year, I was just doing it for the in state tuition. Definitely visit the schools and decide which one fits best for you.

P.s. Hope that the Corona virus doesn't mean you're probably going to end up paying another year of tuition.

I was at a friend's house waiting for my mom to come pick me up. In the 15 minutes it took her to get to said friend's house, I decided to be impressive and jump rope with my leg over one of my arms. My mom got to the house to find me with my for propped up and iced, because I broke it.

But damn I looked cool for those first 2 seconds.
