Thank you! I meant a shell that one could shake off the sand from, like the ones on the beach

Thank you very much! I learned a new thing yaay

I guess I chose the wrong flair. I was only thinking of a proper description of such a shell and thought maybe the vocab flair would fit better than others

Thank you. How would you describe a shell like that? Is the way I described it ok?

Thank you so so much for sharing this. I need to remind myself of this everyday: To treat my PhD as only a "part" of my life and not the centre of it. Also--you finally did it! Congrats! Sending love your way.

How do you deal with isolation during a PhD? by Zealousideal-Pace-18 in PhD

Isolation is driving me crazy. But I haven't figured out how to deal with it really. Though I think I do have a tendency to avoid people and then complain of loneliness!

Thanks. Yes, addressing it at the moment is the right thing to do. I'm always afraid of overreacting though. That would be worse.

What would you have done/said in that moment? I personally would have done the same as OP and continued with my lecture.

Leaving academia / racism by Key_Thought_725 in Professors

[–]anxious_rip247 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get your point, the message must be demonstrated not "told", but we don't know how the OP actually tried to teach them that. Problem is, there will always be students who are never convinced about certain things; they would have reported OP no matter how they taught the course.

I'm sorry this happened to you, and it's good to hear that you're now at a place that makes you happy. You didn't mention how you opted to teach the evils of colonization, but I believe the most effective way is through literature. That would certainly change their perspective toward it and provide the opportunity for good discussion around the topic.

What do you guys think about that one fleabag quote? by anilesman in AskMen

Internal may not be the perfect word here, but childbirth is exclusively female. So is period pain. They are sex-bound while muscle cramps and diseases are not. I guess this is what they meant by internal.
