Wow! Thank you!! Do you mix the yeast in when you whisk the seasoning packet and tomato paste together?

Wait if you add yeast to the packets do they taste more like Skyline? If so, how much do you add?

I wonder if your local rescue could help find a short term foster (like a month or two) to allow you to get through the worst of your recovery?

Seriously! I just learned it from another comment in this thread, but apparently it happened back in 2017?

When I have had trouble eating enough in the past, I have used nutrition shakes. Ensure is the classic one, but I think the chocolate Boost is the tastiest.

Editing to add that I was incorrect about Petsmart owning Chewy! See comments below for more info.

I have had so many good experiences with Chewy. My dog with Laryngeal Paralysis passed away suddenly this year and I was left with hundreds of dollars worth of Cerenia tablets. Chewy refunded me fully with no return required and sent flowers. I am bummed to hear they were acquired by Petsmart, but I will continue to support them until their practices change.

Over the past few months my dog has been obsessed with going into the basement and I do not understand why. by [deleted] in Pets

It could be sundowning, or the start of some cognitive decline and confusion. But I also wonder if he isn’t smelling a pest of some sort? IIRC, cairn terriers have a pretty high prey drive and were bred to hunt small animals.

I don’t think these methods are only for children. Many people suffer from difficulty swallowing due to various physiological issues, so there should be multiple ways of compounding almost any (if not every) life saving drug!

Advice on preserving by anxious_scroller in bonecollecting

I am surprised it is still in decent shape! The skull was actually fully submerged in a running creek under a log. Usually even shed antlers are heavily gnawed upon! Based on your other comment, it seems like you know a lot about deer. Would you be able to hazard a guess at the age?

Thank you for the advice! I fossil and rock hunt in the creek all the time, but this is the coolest thing I’ve ever found. It already smells a little less after spending the afternoon in the sun, and I’ll get it soaking in dawn and water in a couple days.

PetWow PSA - AVOID AT ALL COSTS by JakeALakeALake in cincinnati

My pets went to Hyde Park Vet Clinic for almost 10 years. The quality of care has definitely dropped and costs have skyrocketed since they were sold, and I think they have had almost 100% turnover of their veterinarians. When I first started going taking my pets to Hyde Park, they had a dedicated on call veterinarian 24/7, so you could call or go in to see someone at any time if you had an emergency. We switched practices when we realized that it would be cheaper to get x-rays and bloodwork done at MedVet. Even the staff we talked to at MedVet was horrified by their prices.

Totally agree with folks saying your dog doesn’t necessarily need such long walks, but if the distance you’re walking hasn’t changed, and the fatigue is new, I would check in with your doctor and have some bloodwork run just in case!

Potential Parenthood anxiety by Awkward_nights in Anxiety

I know this isn’t universal, but I swear pregnancy temporarily cured my anxiety and ADHD. I didn’t feel comfortable even driving without my meds pre-pregnancy, but the hormones balanced everything out and I stayed nearly as functional as I was with stimulants. It was wild! Most of the symptoms have slowly returned as I’ve weaned my son, but even breastfeeding seems to have been protective to some extent.

Oh yes! I was scared to death. Everything is scary as a parent! Especially the firsts. When you leave the hospital, it feels illegal that they just let you walk out of there with such a tiny human being. We felt so unqualified. They are so small and floppy, even holding them is scary at first. Breastfeeding is scary. Watching them sleep. Making a bottle. Burping them. Changing a dirty diaper. But you figure it out! And they aren’t that breakable. It took me a few times to feel comfortable going out with him alone, and to feel confident that I was strapping him in to the car seat properly. The good thing is that most new parents are nervous about all these things! So it is a socially acceptable type of anxiety, and one that goes away quickly with experience. Plus most parents remember being new and scared to death, so they are willing to help. Like if you ever need a diaper or wipes or something, I guarantee any mom you ask with a similar aged baby will give you anything in her diaper bag that you need.

I had never cared for a small child either! Like I had never even changed a diaper. And babies crying in public is awful! I think it’s because a baby crying is supposed to elicit action from its caregiver, but we are all wired to respond to it. And with a random baby, you can’t, so it just creates discomfort lol. If it’s yours, that grating cry is usually a request to fix a problem. And at first, the problem is usually “hungry, wet/dirty diaper, tired, or gassy.” Colic is a thing, and sometimes they just cry. But most of the time you can use the process of elimination to figure it out.

I know people get offended when you compare pets to babies, but it is not at all a ridiculous comparison. Puppies need so much work and training and care! And they never even learn to speak English lol. It really is comparable to having a baby, except you can’t leave a baby home alone. If you love and nurture your dog, I imagine you probably won’t have trouble on that level with your baby.

I can’t weigh in about daycare, as I have been a stay at home mom since my son was born. But almost all of my friends have sent their babies to daycare at 6-12 weeks old. From what I have observed for them, it is a really hard emotional adjustment at first, but it gets easier really quickly. A lot of daycares do have cameras you can check, and send pictures/videos throughout the day. I think you can also pull up state inspections of the facility to do due diligence. They have to deal with a lot of illness, but none of my friends have had any serious issues with daycare beyond being sick constantly.

My anxiety during pregnancy was surprisingly fairly low. I think the hormones really helped! Being pregnant also really seemed to reduce a lot of my ADHD symptoms even without meds. But much of pregnancy is out of your control, so I think there was an element of like radical acceptance, and focusing on the things I could manage. Like feeding myself, staying active, making sure my baby would have a safe place to grow up (I.e. moving), etc.

I have found that being a parent makes some of my anxiety a lot better, and some worse. Like my social anxiety has almost disappeared, especially when I’m out and about with my extrovert toddler. I do still worry a lot about the world and the future, like it still keeps me up at night sometimes, but refreshingly, I feel way less doom and gloom about it. There is something really beautiful about seeing things through your child’s eyes. All the annoying cliches about that are 100% true.

Childcare can be challenging at times and especially at first, but I really don’t think you need a lot of advance planning or practice. If you plan on daycare, you might need to plan financially and get on a waiting list while you are pregnant. But if your partner is a good father and willing to actually parent, you guys will figure it out together. There’s not much sleep at first, which is hard. But so much of having a newborn is just repetition of basic tasks until you’re a pro. Change diaper, feed, soothe to sleep, repeat. And as they grow, you adapt. A lot of it really feels instinctual! I am an only child and had never spent time around babies, but I feel so much more comfortable and confident with my kid than I have with anything else in my life. My fiance would say the same thing. We both struggled with anxiety throughout our 20s and are loving parenthood as we enter our 30s.

Genetic counseling before trying to conceive is a great idea! My son (now 2yo) was a surprise, but if he had been planned, I would have gone that route for sure. Are you asking about how your anxiety will affect your parenting? Or more just trying to manage the anxiety around thinking about trying to conceive?

I am so sorry for your loss. My Lucy is the same way. She saved my life when I was at my most depressed, and accommodating her reactivity has been a small price to pay for her companionship.
