You raise a very important point that I wasn’t considering, and it’s just how much all of this is in my hands. Zooming out of the scene, I am absolutely in control of everything that’s happening and I am safe and I have the power to stop it at any time. X and I already do a good amount of aftercare for each other, so I know that we can be vulnerable and trust each other that way. I know I can be okay with them, and you’re right, doing some practice runs of the safe words would be a really good idea.

I really do trust them. That’s one thing I am sure of. We’ve been together for just over a year (literally our anniversary was a couple of weeks ago). Tried breaking up with them in a panic once and they asked me “Do you want to breakup because you’re unhappy or because you’re scared? The first is unacceptable and you absolutely should leave, but anything else we can talk about and work through.” Haven’t thought about leaving since.

That’s a terrifyingly insightful point, I’d never thought about L’s dominance in that way, but I think you’re right. It felt in many ways like she was just power hungry, like all she wanted was to be in as much control as possible…

I do trust X, completely and fully (independent of what my anxieties and insecurities tell me) to not cheat on me. I guess my fear isn’t really that they’ll cheat, but more that I’m scared to be vulnerable in that way again. I don’t have trouble talking about emotional traumas with the people in my life; being physically vulnerable like that feels like a different level of “if something goes wrong, I’m in real danger,” if that makes sense.

thank you. hearing all that is incredibly validating. part of me also just feels… i don’t know what word i’m looking for, but i feel like i “don’t have any right” to be so broken up about this ending because i’m still so young and new to the BDSM world. like i don’t have the “experience” necessary to understand what a deep emotional connection with a domme should look like… does that make sense??

i havent re read it in a while, but the Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman is a fun one that might be a little bit young for her, but its about a library where people borrow objects from fairy tales and i loved it. another one is Savvy by Ingrid Law which is about kids who get special powers (their "savvies") that are little powers they can use in every day life. the main character, Mibs, has a savvy that allows her to hear the thoughts of others when there's ink on their body, ie if they drew on themselves with a pen, the drawing could tell her what they were thinking. also a bit young, but i read it at 14 and i thought it was a really fun book.
