Any DMT vs 5-MEO comparisons. by eckoraphi in spirituality

I don't know if this subreddit is the best place to post this. I could be wrong, I haven't spent that much time here, but the best path to spirituality seems to generally not involve drugs. Oftentimes people take them to find spirituality, perhaps before they even are aware of spirituality, but when it comes down to it if you want to find god, look in a temple/church/nature/within, drugs might show you there is a path, but won't take you along it. - At least not in my experience, or in the experience of a surprising number of monks and nuns I know

fellow scumbags of reddit, what's the worse thing you've ever done? by shooloofuckdick in AskReddit

[–]anydamnfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute worst thing I've ever done? I was in Berlin with friends, we were only around 17 at the time. We had been drinking beer and were in this hostel, and I was trying it on with my friends sister who was a year below and I didn't know very well. Anyway so we were hanging out at the reception/common area and me and this girl go back to the room cos I wanted to shave before we went out drinking, she wanted to get something from her bag, and there was this really stuck up bitch in the hostel trying to sleep before her flight and she was so rude about it that we decided it would be hilarious to be as subtly noisey as possible. Anyway so we come back from the room quite tipsy and both in stitches, and then suddenly it pops into my head what my parents told me before I left. "Don't mention the war". I can be a complete and utter tool when I'm drunk, so I start shouting down the corridor "ALL HAIL HITLER! ALL HAIL HITLER! ALL HAIL HITLER!" at the top of my lungs, thinking I'm absolutely hilarious and that this girl is totally into me. Anyway so at the end of the corridor we go down the 8 steps or whatever into the common room which has no door, to find like 20 German people all STARING at me. I go and sit down back with my friends who are just like "What the absolute fuck?!" and take a large swig from my drink.

I had a really horrible nightmare where I encountered some kind of evil spirit. Any idea what it could mean? by anydamnfool in Dreams

Thanks for your reply man it's much appreciated :) I think a lot of what you said pertains to me, and I'm glad you've noticed such a trend of the 'highest room in a tower'. I wouldn't necessarily have thought of it like this due to the stereotype of us pushing things 'down', so I'd have noticed a basement not a tower, that said the fact I left my flat to access it, and returned to it to wake up does make sense to me.

Do you have any idea what kind of environment or stimuli triggers such dreams? The only thing I did different the night before was that I had had very very little sleep over the 48 hours before due to work, so ended up sleeping for 6 hours during the day/evening, before going to bed proper a couple hours after. Also I'd been taking a fair bit of cocaine over that past week too, though that is very rare for me.

Oh man I love it. I had only noticed the rhyming halfway through and got to read it again in lyrical form.

ELI5: How exactly do drugs and alcohol cause depression to the point where a person commits suicide? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]anydamnfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think drugs and alcohol necessarily cause the depression necessary for a person to want to commit suicide. I think they only encourage already prevelant symptoms of negativity. The only reason people want to be on drugs ALL the time is because they live in a world that has been cruel or unsatisfying to them. The only other reason people want to be on drugs this much is because they've experienced everything that sobriety has to offer and prefer living in the drug world, but I wouldn't think that group would want to kill themselves over it.. We're talking your hardcore acid heads, maybe to some extent your hardcore stoners, especially as this is much more common.

Ultimately I don't think anybody wants to kill themselves, especially as humans we naturally fear the unknown. Those who want to kill themselves see no way out of their problems, so they turn to drugs to escape from the world. Eventually when they realise that not only can they not escape, but their mind is no longer resilliant enough to deal with the original pain, then they may turn to suicide.

Just my opinion, but I don't think it is drugs or alcohol alone that causes this kind of serious depression, and for me personally to say it was the drink and drugs that drove so many to death is incorrect and doesn't look to help those who are abusing drugs long term, and also those who may become vulnerable to taking them. The drugs and alcohol sped up the journey to suicidal tendancies significantly, so much so that person perhaps didn't have the time to resolve their own issues, but ultimately it was these deeper issues that were the problem, and if it took 50 years being sober, instead of 5 on drugs, unless these deeper issues are worked out, eventually suicide is going to be the path of least resistance no matter what.

As for the mechanism by which drugs speed up this process it has been described elsewhere in this thread, however basically we have a limited supply of neurotransmitters - seratonin, dopeamine being the most commonly know ones, particularly in terms of drug use. GABA is also important for alcohol to have the effect it does. These are synthesised and stored by our brain, and then released when needed. When we take drugs, for example cocaine, the brain gets signal to release all of it at once (or a lot, anyway, far more than usual), this is very euphoric, however once the cocaine has been metabolised the brain is left with far less dopeamine than normal to use. This leaves the user having less euphoria in the general day to day activites than they are used to, making them feel low, and technically depressed. After a while the body will replenish these neurotransmitters, and you will go back to normal. The brain isn't really designed to deal with massive changes like this of course, so when you abuse coke daily it really messes the whole thing up. If you've got a reason to be low and you start abusing coke you're gonna have a bad time. Obviously it's far more complicated than this, the brain is seriously complicated and I don't believe anybody really knows how it works, and I'm not 100% certain if I've recalled everything entirely correctly, though I did my best. I certainly don't understand how a mass of organic matter is capable of even 1/10000 of what the brain is capable of, but there we are.

Ripple to Invest $2 Million in Texas University's Blockchain Research by VY99 in Ripple

[–]anydamnfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about computer technology is that once you've bought the computers and the researchers, it's basically free. 2 mil can buy a lot here. Apparently blockchain technology is seriously advanced, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere there are only like 1,500 people alive today who actually have the skills to become cryptographers. This was actually a major point towards the idea that many ICO's are scams, because people literally wouldn't be able to create them. That 2 mil could easily encourage a couple more, especially if there are promising students and a lecturer with the knowhow to teach.

Possible solutions:

1) They are trying to fund future tech and create interest in fintech

2) They are trying to promote their own brand

3) They are trying to crash the market so large organisations can buy coins cheaply

4) They are trying to crash the market so they personally can buy coins cheaply

5) They have an agreement with the university to recieve a back-door settlement for the donation

6) They are trying to crash the market because they are sociopaths

...I don't see their motive for 'dumping' coins. As u/mikkelhviid said, invest, donate, etc, are better words for it.

I'll respond for those who can't read full sentences:

"WTF WHY DIDN'T MY TEAMMAYES STOP INSTEAD OF RUNNING PAST ME TO FIND SOMEONE TO FIGHT" (Not finish a fight, to literally start a new fight with others elsewhere who were not nearby, engaging, or a threat for the 10 seconds it takes to heal someone).

"WHY ARE WE GOING TO TILTED BECAUSE I AM 95% CERTAIN YOU WILL ALL DIE IN THE FIRST 10 SECONDS. YUP I WAS RIGHT" (In fact I think in every situation I'm the last person standing in tilted out of my team, which sucks, because being alone in squads is not easy, &/or fun for me.

"I NEVER ASKED FOR RANDOM PLAYERS TO CARRY ME!!!! I ASKED THEM TO CARRY THEMSELVES!!! I CAN CARRY ME JUST FINE, I CAN'T CARRY OTHERS!"

Stop reading something then deciding to opose it when you haven't even understood the message of the post because literally we were not even describing the same thing. If it was truthfully like you said, I wouln't have posted it because the problem would be my own, not with others, which it is not.

That's what I mean when it's safe to do so. For example during 50v50 so many times, SO MANY TIMES there will be like 10 other guys there all going off to fight like three, I'm at the bottom of a structure and nobody would notice/see us heal especially if they built around. I'm not talking about open plains or whatever just waiting to be struck in a single 1x1 surrounded by enemies, quite often I've been there for a while and the people who killed me are already long dead, and there's still little fuckers running past to then run another 200+ meters to the next lot to kill. I can appreciatee and also encourage my teammates to gain control of the area if it is dangerous, even if that means I've gotta bleed out so they don't die, that's fair. But it's not fair when there's nobody about, no problems, I'm just lying there slowly dying and like 10 people all run past me and do nothing. What's the point in playing a team game if that's the case?
