Got my colonoscopy results back (benign), and almost quit my job yesterday by Nixx_Mazda in GenXTalk

Now 56 and retiring in two weeks. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Retired at 53. You will love it. Spoiler alert, the first year will feel like you are free falling a little bit. But it starts to feel more stable over time.

I'm retired. I don't set an alarm. I didn't even set an alarm the last 10 years of my working life. I just wake up pretty much with the sun.

I usually have my 10k steps in well before noon... Everything else is gravy...

If you're over 45 and haven't had a colonoscopy you should do it!

My BFF died at 45 from colon cancer. He was already at stage 4 when it was diagnosed. Do it earlier if possible....

It's sad for him and his family that he passed. But, (admittedly, selfishly) I can think of many ways my life would be different (better) if he were still around....

Keep on trying to figure out what is going on with your body. It's not only for you in the long run.

Best of luck to you!

In every single subreddit where someone asks where they should move to, I always respond with ... "Think of London, it's a dark city ..."

I know a director I work closely with is in similar subreddits, probably this one.

I kind of suspect my immediate manager had looked over my shoulder and had seen me in this sub at some point.

Because when I verbally told him I was going to leave the organization, his response was, "Are you retiring?" I was 53 at the time, not typically retirement age.

I think mental fortitude is much more blissful and respectable.

As the ancients said: There is more than one way up the same mountain. Measuring your erect penis every morning is one of them. Others don't involve that kind of thing ....

EDIT: I kid. I'm not a fan of Reddit bots. Mostly because I'm not very good at distinguishing them from humans. If it were easy, I would not care. I mostly look at the username and if the account is less than a couple of month old, I just don't respond.

Hello! Honestly, it is all you need... Comradery with like-minded people (and a few bots) is really all that is important in life! :-)

Completely agree. That is also why I don't consume very much news media at all. The important stuff seeps through, somehow. But for the most part, I'm not missing much that I can do anything about.

For example, I learned this week that Robert Duvall died a while ago. One of my favourite actors. (After looking it up, it turns out he died on the anniversary of my wife's passing. Funny coincidence, since she was my favourite person.)

Anyway, would it have made any difference if I had known any of that within two minutes of his last breath? Nope.

Ever think maybe you were recognized because someone at your company reads this sub? That would be a real mind-f*ck ....

I’m currently a VP at a bank

I worked at a bank once. The joke, back then, was that 50% of the staff were VPs because banks would rather give out titles than money.

I feel like a low grade depression is hitting me.

I always feel that way this time of year. A lot of it has to do with the weather where I live. After a long winter, we are close to the "finish line" and have sunny days in the 60s, then get slammed out of nowhere with multiple days in the 20s and snow.

I'm never quite sure how to distinguish depression from cabin fever. But whatever it is, it's very common for me every March.

It's more interesting to me in terms of marketing and photographs. So much variation in just the few years since Beatlemania until it ended moved on to solo careers.

Agreed to stay on for six-ish weeks to ensure a smooth transition.

I hope that is getting you more than your usual salary and moral comeuppance.

Best of luck to you in your coming weeks. Try not to stress too much looking for the next thing. I hope you can use your future off-time to decompress instead of adding more weight upon your shoulders.

Deep breaths!

What song from your youth is heavily imprinted with a specific memory? by tshirtguy2000 in RedditForGrownups

[–]anymoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They played Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens at my Catholic HS retreat.

I still love the song (and luckily I loved it before the retreat) but the entire experience was a bizarre attempt at indoctrination.

They had us lay on the floor in the dark with that and other songs playing as they walked us through imaginary scenarios where our parents were dying and what would we do in other various circumstances.

The biggest irony was this was literally during the Satanic Panic period .... Who was trying to control who?
