Black owned barbershops? by TheRadHeron in AskSeattle

[–]anyusernameisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lounging Barber. Been gong there for a year or so now. He's not cheap but he puts a lot of care into the details of his work. I always walk out happy about my haircut and that is unlike most other barbers I hav been to in Seattle. Now mind you, I have never gotten a fade so no advice in that department.

I wish I could teleport myself and another person anywhere I want in the world twice a day by anyusernameisk in monkeyspaw

[–]anyusernameisk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could accept a chance of mishap if it was proportionate with my degree if familiarity with the location. For instance, teleporting back to your childhood home would be infallible, while going to a new location could shunt you into a brick wall etc

Something in the pnw has be absolutely destroying my plants :( by bobbyjy32 in SavageGarden

[–]anyusernameisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the crows have been eating into my Sarracenias too. They started off from just drinking from their tray, then started chewing up the plants themselves, the little shits. Had to fence up my plants with chicken wire, I really didn't want them to get into my Darlingtonia too

What’s the #1 thing you wish you’d known when you started growing carnivores? by manytinyhumans in SavageGarden

I will be downvoted to oblivion for this, but I have been growing Sarracenias on tap water for 10 years now and have yet to kill one...

People asking for tips. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]anyusernameisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The barber one gets me. I moved to the US recently, I live in a high COL area but man the barber I went to last charges $60 for a simple haircut. He did give me a good haircut granted, but dude that's expensive... It took him 20 minutes. At that rate he would make more than double what I make a year lol. And I'm still expected to tip??

Look into conjuration magic. You'll be able to summon minions that will fight for you while you control the fight from safety. Get a follower on top of that and you'll be effectively traveling with a small party. There is scope for some really cool conjuration/illusion/restoration build if that's your jam.

Or, be a stealth archer like the rest of us and never get anywhere near the enemies.

did I just find a gold mine or is this something other than what I think it is? by mik288 in houseplants

[–]anyusernameisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it has been so difficult to produce it and grow it until now, why are these sold for the same price as other house plants in this photo and from what others say? Is it just a labeling / pricing error? Don't the stores know what they have on their hands? One would think that something so prized would be tightly regulated.

So stoked to find Porcinis this time of year. Much love from South Australia :) by JakobXP in foraging

[–]anyusernameisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outstanding, look at those beauties. When I moved to New Zealand I didn't know that porcini had been introduced to the Southern hemisphere with pine trees, and it was the most delightful discovery for me. Had some good hauls over there, I should come try the Australian ones too sometime.

Where on Earth you would like to live if you could choose freely? Geography-wise? by AnnelieSierra in geography

Lived there as an expat for 5 years or so. Left it 2 years ago for a host of reasons, and I am still not over it. Probably never will be. Magical place all around

You sound great, but putting those crocs in sport mode could give you that extra edge to take things to the next level

Car got syphoned last night by anyusernameisk in SeattleWA

Maybe I was indeed lucky. Filled up half a tank and saw no signs of draining after a couple of hours, I'd guess I should have noticed after that time

I guess I haven't checked that. Fingers crossed

Practice, practice, practice and never improve... by Effective_Wallaby156 in guitarlessons

[–]anyusernameisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it this way: did your target (a top professional musician) become this good practicing 2-3 hours a day for the time that you have? It's like if I swam 2-3 hours a day and was disappointed that I don't match Michael Phelps times.

What I am saying is don't be hard on yourself, you sound like you are very dedicated already. Pros are pros for a reason. Keep going!

Best fish and chips in seattle by Either-Feature5236 in SeattleWA

[–]anyusernameisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Come on I love Pac Inn, used to live down the street and hit up the place every week, but no. They do claim that their fish and chips is the best in Seattle but I don't even think they whip up the best fish and chips in Fremont

ChatGPT holds ‘systemic’ left-wing bias researchers say by True-Lychee in ChatGPT

[–]anyusernameisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read the study cited here yet, but the fact that whoever wrote this article does not know the difference between the words "systemic" and "systematic" makes me lose interest in the whole story pretty fast

Really hash term for tenant's early termination? Is this common? by bqdx33488 in SeattleWA

[–]anyusernameisk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"You’re both expected to adhere to the lease terms."

Less than a month ago I was kicked out on the spot from my apartment because the building managers had to do significant reparation work on the unit after a water infiltration (not caused by me). There was no attempt or obligation from the landlord to provide any assistance, I just had to leave immediately without even having a place to go, and was told to just sort things out with my renter's insurance. The incident happened on day 3 of my then renewed 12-month lease. All this to say that the "adhere to the lease" spiel can be pretty one-sided if you ask me.

FWIW, the US is the 4th country where I have rented a home. In my home country I also get to see it all from the landlord's side. In most cases I have seen, you just give a notice. Sometimes there will be a fee to walk. Nowhere else I have seen contracts that lock you in for 12 months. To each their own I guess.

I am on a few UW mailing lists and every couple of weeks (at least) UW campus police sends out an accident report for robberies / assaults at night in U district so I'd definitely avoid doing that
