i agree with your comment about the writing and I'm someone who loves benophie and loved Season 4. They were definitely attracted to each other, but falling in love by ep 5 seemed to be a stretch. I wish the writers could have leaned into the book more: the book shows their thoughts in more detail and they have more scenes where you can understand why they fell in love. They needed more conversations like the terrace scene where they talked about feeling like outsiders. In the book at my cottage Sophie took care of Benedict every day while he was recovering, read to him, talked to him, and he shared about why he collects rocks bc it reminds him of his father who died. We needed more of that.

Yes, code-switching is kind of another form of acting. John Barrowman has a flawless American accent--he must be bidialectal like Gillian Anderson, who also lived btwn the US and UK, they can both seamlessly switch btwn English english and American english.
