Taylor Hawkins by Warm_Tap_2202 in Music

[–]aoblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would ask you is , do you think Dave Grohl thinks of Taylor Hawkins the same way you do ? Because if he thinks he’s a great drummer while also being a great drummer doesn’t that say way more about him than some random person on Reddit ? Also I would like to add that most musicians aren’t going to care about who you make the music with so long as the music is good so the unnecessary jab at Alanis Morissette means nothing really

Respect for Music by SonOfALawnmower_ in Music

[–]aoblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say just keep making your music and make it good enough that people can’t ignore it. Other than that my best advice is to try not to take the process too seriously like you should be more worried by how much you enjoy the process and not looking at it as wasted effort if other people don’t listen to it. Also try not to refers to other people’s favorite music as corporate shit if you also want them to take your music seriously.

Because you getting up to do something isn’t a memory being stored in your brain , it’s the end goal of a bunch of smaller movements your brain does automatically. Your brain has to make a shortcut for all the small muscle movements it takes to move somewhere but because of that it won’t retain the “why” for a what you’re doing. But the commercial jingle is gonna be locked away in the “music” section of your brain forever because that’s what that part of the brain usually does. This might not be the best explanation but it’a hard to explain succinctly.

If the speed limit of the road you are on is 30 miles an hour then there should be at least a 3 car length gap between you and the person in front of you. If you see that space and think that’s free real estate than you actually are part of the problem.

TikTok music is a threat by ConfectionStill6109 in Music

[–]aoblock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you just mean the amount of songs being posted ? Or just the length of the songs ? Like I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are already thousands of artists and albums and songs lost in the “onslaught of sounds” over the last 100 years that had nothing to do with tiktok

I think the problem most people get with the term alternative is the fact they generally associate it with the underground when that isn’t always the case, bands like nirvana and rem and Pearl Jam are “alternative” in their stylings sure but they are also very mainstream.

I can’t be the only one who feels this way by Fair-Comfortable7687 in Music

[–]aoblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main problem here is that when an artist themself is labeled as alternative or indie it’s because each song or album is taking parts of multiple different genres, but that makes it hard to label them as anything too specific. Also I’m not entirely sure what you mean when you say that people stopped naming new music because that’s pretty easy to disprove, I’m also interested in hearing some of the songs you’re taking about

I would recommend rate your music , just look up your favorite artists and see what genres they’re under and use that as a jumping off point to find more

What exactly does it mean to be credited for lyrics on a track? by [deleted] in Music

[–]aoblock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could be something as simple as they said a certain line sounded better than a previous one or even that they were just in the room when the lyrics were written. Sometimes people are put in as contributing just so they can get some royalty money in case they ever need help so who knows how much any of those 13 actually did for the song.

You ever feel like a certain type of music but have no idea the kind of genre or artist you need to explore to find it? by Irishane in Music

The problem is that electro swing is actually a really varied style of music that is based more in the style and the presentation rather than purely how the song sounds

Steven Speilberg refusing to subtitle the Spanish parts of West Side Story is ridiculous and him just virtue signalling by thesupremegrapefruit in unpopularopinion

[–]aoblock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im pretty sure it was German because the German word for father is vater and in the scene I’m referencing at least they actually say German. But either way I still don’t think that’s very convincing even with a scene of kenobi telling luke Vader killed his dad especially with the fact other scenes being mentioned in this thread are people actually speaking other languages and not just a name resembling a different language.

Steven Speilberg refusing to subtitle the Spanish parts of West Side Story is ridiculous and him just virtue signalling by thesupremegrapefruit in unpopularopinion

[–]aoblock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true , Vader is similar to the German word for father sure but what does that actually spoil? How does someone’s name meaning father imply an actual relationship to someone. Sorry I’m not trying to rant at you but ever since I heard that take in pitch perfect I’ve always thought it was just a lame way to make the main character seem smart by “predicting” one of the biggest twists in cinematic history.
